Since Jon was intent on riding south to save Arya, could be it’s the first thing he does as Ghost. He maybe joins in on any battle that might be going on. (Maybe Theon sees Ghost killing some enemies then disappearing then appearing again to kill some more, he could think to himself that Jon chose an apt name for his wolf. But that is beside the point.) Maybe as Ghost, Jon finds Mance’s secret entrance through the crypts and there learns of his parentage by seeing or sensing something as Ghost he otherwise would not have been able to detect. Maybe in that same moment, Jon is resurrected back at the Wall now knowing about his true parentage. I’d hate it for Ghost to die, but it would make sense in a few ways. Since their souls would basically merge and become one it would be like both their souls went back to Jon’s body so Ghost would die. That could explain Jon’s change in appearance looking more like Ghost, since Ghost is in his body as well.
