The first part of this video will quickly summarise Cersei's role in the main series, highlighting her many crimes and misdeeds. Some of this stuff you'll remember – ordering the death of Lady, falsely accusing Tyrion, framing the Tyrells. But there's some more obscure stuff in there as well, like that one time Cersei tried to assassinate Jon Snow. When it's all laid out like this, it's kinda breathtaking just how much death and suffering Cersei causes in her arc... later parts of the video will try to unpack why Cersei does these terrible things.

(The Book/Season 1 section in the upper-left corner of this image is mostly complete, while the later books in the lower half are still a work in progress..)

Yep. 'She would pile dead dwarfs ten feet high before she let that happen.' is one of her more hideous thoughts.

I feel compassion for "show" Cersei, and I can't seem to feel any compassion for "book" Cersei. I think this is in large part because of what the amazing Lena Headey brings to the role in the show. But also it feels like Cersei has done more terrible things (or is portrayed as a more terrible person in thought and deed) in the books than in the show.

Yeah. In the show, Cersei gets some great humanising moments that she doesn't get in the books – e.g. her emotional scenes with King Robert, and with Catelyn. Also, many of her crimes in the books she doesn't do in the show - e.g. in the show, Joffrey kills Robert's bastards, not Cersei. On the other hand, the books give us much more information about Cersei's past, and about her fears over Maggy's prophecy. Part of my aim with this video is to use this info to make book-Cersei a bit more sympathetic - or at least more understood.
