Alt Shift X 2022 (Patreon)

TL;DR: The Expanse Finale video and Dune video will be done soon. In 2022, the focus is House of the Dragon and ASOIAF videos. Probably also Raised by Wolves and Westworld.

In 2021, we made some of our best ASOIAF / Game of Thrones videos ever, and also experimented with new kinds of content.

“The real Tyrion Lannister” is by far our longest and most in-depth ASOIAF video. I love the artwork, especially the Tyrion portrait commissioned from Bella Bergolts. Really happy with the Summerhall and Blackfyre rebellions videos too. We’ve been making ASOIAF videos for seven years now, and the production value, writing and research has come a long long way. (Like, seriously, look how clunky the old videos were.)



We also did some weird new stuff this year – the All Tomorrows video was an unexpected viral hit, which helped spawn a strange and delightful fandom. I’m really pleased with the Alt Shift X Podcast so far, with its interviews of C. M. Kosemen and the Expanse authors. I hope to interview the Expanse authors again, to talk about the new Expanse book, Leviathan Falls. Our third and final Expanse Season 6 video will be released on Jan 14th, the day the finale comes out (thanks to early episode access from Amazon). After that, we’ll finish the Dune video. Dune is a vast and challenging series, and with more Dune movies and series coming, I think we’ll make more Dune videos in the future.

Alt Schwift X made the one hundredth episode of the Game of Thrones Abridged Podcast this year, among other things. I shudder to think what fresh nonsense Alt Schwift X will produce next.

So in 2021, we experimented with new stuff, and refined the old familiar stuff. In 2022, I want to use all that learning to get back to basics and just make a heap more videos. House of the Dragon will be top priority when that comes out – with weekly episode breakdowns and livestreams, just like the old days with GOT. We’ll probably start with some videos about Fire & Blood (the book that House of the Dragon is based on).

And we’ll make more ASOIAF character videos like “The real Tyrion Lannister”. Once the Dune video is done, we’ll open a Patron vote to choose an ASOIAF character to cover – maybe Daenerys, or Jon, or Bran, or Sansa… We can also do more theory and lore videos, including an Asshai video. The Alt Shift X Podcast will continue with extra content, discussion and interviews to accompany videos.

Westworld Season 4 is coming out next year, and Raised by Wolves Season 2 – so we’ll probably cover them if they're worth covering. And maybe another non-fiction video like the religion and disaster one… But 2022 is a good time to focus on House of the Dragon and ASOIAF. I still have hope that The Winds of Winter will come one day – and I want to be ready.

So let’s make a bunch of great videos in 2022.
