The Alleras video is almost done – it’s about 7 minutes long, exploring Alleras’ secret identity, and his(her) role in the Oldtown plot. Oldtown really is one of the most exciting, mysterious plotlines in ASOIAF – with Marwyn, Jaqen, Euron, Sam… and Alleras at the centre of this brewing mystic drama.

One of the most puzzling parts of Alleras’ story is the symbolism of the sphinx – Alleras is called the Sphinx for his(her) mixed Dornish / Summer Islander heritage, but the sphinx motif seems to have a deeper meaning. On the way to Oldtown, Maester Aemon says “the sphinx [is] the riddle, not the riddler”, and Sam wonders if Alleras might be this sphinx. I think Alleras could fit this line – he is a “riddle” because of her secret identity. But the sphinx seems to have a further hidden meaning, connected to dragons and Targaryens – Aemon seems to link these ideas, and Alleras the Sphinx even says “The dragon has three heads” in the Prologue. I don’t think there are any easy answers to explain this Alleras-sphinx-Targaryen connection – but there’s plenty of speculation in this vid about Alleras’ role present and future (:

Expecting to finish this video in a few days, before Westworld S2.

This is one of the plots that went straight over my head. I really need to read Feast again. I’m very much looking forward to this.
