Alt Shift X update (Patreon)

Hey guys,

Thanks for your support through another huge season of GOT! Season 7 was a challenge for several reasons – longer episodes, less book content, that GD Winterfell plot... But I think we made some kickass videos these last couple months. The Patron livestreams were also cool – a fun way to hear from you guys directly. Producing all of this content every week without compromising on quality required hundreds of hours of labour from a dedicated team – which could not have been possible without your support.

With this season done, our main focus returns to ASOIAF videos. Given that the GOT show ends in 2018/19 (and TWOW comes out.. eventually?), these next 12 months are probably the best time to cover all the big topics we haven't gotten to yet – theories and mysteries like the pink letter, Doom of Valyria, House Dayne, Euron, Patchface and Bloodraven, and character analyses on Jaime, Brienne, Sansa and others. (Now would also be a good time for that Rhaegar video). So there's heaps of ASOIAF to explore – will hold more Patron votes so you guys can choose some topics (:

We'll also explore some non-GOT series. There's lots of demand for Westworld – it'd be cool to do a Westworld Season 1 Explained video. We could also do Stranger Things, American Gods, Rick and Morty, The OA, movies, books, games – comment your suggestions below! I'd also like to try some more real-world / educational stuff – have been tinkering with a script about disaster, which seems all too relevant now... ASOIAF will remain the focus of Alt Shift X – but it's not the only thing worth talking about ;)

Finally, we'll continue with goofy side-projects like Alt Schwift X and Alt Shift ZZZ. A very lovely and quirky community has formed around Schwift (yes, there'll be more episodes this week, promise!) so that'll continue to be a place for fun little experiments. I also see lots of potential in some kind of book club / discussion / live-stream / podcast series – so something like that may materialise.

For now, we're taking a break. The Patreon is paused, and no one will be charged at the end of this month.

Hi Alt! I wanted to let you know that I really enjoyed this season's (and really all of this year's) videos. The level of detail and insightful analysis really make them enjoyable. My particular favorites from this year were the Knight of the Laughing Tree and Cersei's endgame. I was initially nervous and hesitant to watch the video on Cersei because as an ASOIAF fan I feel like a lot of the female characters are unfairly judged and their complexity isn't as appreciated, especially with such a complicated character as Cersei but I was so impressed with your interpretation video! I feel that you gave a well thought out analysis and that you really did her character justice. I can't wait to see what other aspects of ASOIAF you have in store for this coming year. I'd especially like to see your take on the High Heart prophecy and what it means for Sansa. I'd also love to see your take on Westworld. Keep up the great work!

Thanks Bee! Yeah I agree that the fandom tends to misjudge Cersei – that's a big part of why I wanted to do that video. Glad you enjoyed the vids!

Hi AltShiftX, thanks for all your updates. I would suggest AMERICAN GODS. I think it would be amazing if we could get your analysis based on this series. Season one already started, they book been out for years and there is more to come. I firmly believe your viewers will watch and follow even if they are not familiar with this series. They will stay watching your analysis, drill down as we move forward. If you're not for it, Would please crate at least One review for AMERICAN GODS? Thanks!
