We're nearing the end of the Famimaga Video series, and this one has some really cool stuff in it. Not least of all a conversation between Yuji Horii and Shigesato Itoi about, one assumes, Dragon Quest IV and EarthBound Beginnings. I've asked for help with a formal translation of that segment, but you can get the gist of it by watching the auto-translated subtitles. I sure wish I had known about that PC Engine hardware preview before posting my Analogue Duo episode, though... it would have come in handy. Well, I'm sure there'll be other opportunities.

Famimaga Video Issue 9 [Jan. 1990] VHS Rip

We're nearing the final stretch of the Famimaga Video series, and as it winds down you can see the publisher experimenting with the format a little. This episode skips the standard preview approach for a hands-on live report from a gaming event, which includes a conversation between Dragon Quest designer Yuji Horii and EarthBound scribe Shigesato Itoi. (I'm looking into having this translated, by the way.) The end also brings us a very length dive into the Atari Lynx—an import novelty of note—and SuperGrafx. Also among the heavy-hitters this time around, the fourth Dragon Quest and third Final Fantasy, Castlevania III, and a ton of Game Boy material. 1990 was hoppin'! Recorded from a Panasonic S-VHS deck and upscaled to 720p via Retrotink 5X. You may of course freely use portions of this video for your own work as needed!
