Hey all, I posted this week's video a few days early, but I would hate for you to think I'm neglecting you today. So, here is a little bonus tape: An official super play VHS tape of the arcade version of Gradius III, which I have ripped and upscaled (albeit imperfectly, due to the poor condition of the original tape).

This is the sort of thing I've been uploading every weekend for folks at the Exclusive Content tier, by the way. If old official VHS tapes and LaserDiscs of video game footage and promotional material intrigue you, you can enjoy that kind of nonsense weekly. At least until I run out of tapes and LaserDiscs, which looks like it will be... uh, in about three years. Yeah, I might have gone a little overboard with this venture. But I've sourced so much good B-roll for my video projects...!

Gradius III super play [VHS Rip] [with skips and tracking errors]

An upscaled rip of an official VHS tape containing a super play video of the arcade version of Gradius III. There were some tracking issues with this one, but even so, it's still a decent source of B-roll footage, if you ever need to make a video about Gradius III.

Konami releases a tape to demonstrate SNES slowdown. This game demonstrates both sides of the SNES. The disadvantage of slowdown and the upside of the graphics. The colors were amazing to me in 1991. There were a series of early SNES releases which used the color very well and this was a big one. It would have been great at the time to get "fixed Gradius III" later in the SNES time period using the faster memory chips when the price was lower. There would be no sane reason for Konami to do it, so we just have to settle for a hacked ROM now.

To be fair this is the arcade version, which still does have a considerable amount of slowdown. Weirdly the SNES version being bogged with slowdown is one of the more source accurate parts of the game considering all the little changes they made (almost all for the better) (funny enough in the arcade if you cause too much slowdown/not enough slowdown in the final stage you can make it so you can't bypass the rotating laser section, so it's literally broken. but i mean it's fine its not like anyone is actually getting to the final stage of this evil, evill game)
