August exclusive #1: Famimaga Video Sept. 1988 (Issue 1) (Patreon)
Content
Good afternoon, friends! Or whatever time of day it may be for you. I have your first patron-exclusive video for August here—another VHS rip. This one is a treasure trove of material for my work, the first in a series of 45-minute video magazines that Family Computer Magazine (Famimaga) released bimonthly as a counterpart to its print publications for a couple of years during the bubbliest part of the Bubble Era. These things were super cheap by the standards of Japanese VHS tapes, selling for a mere ¥1980 (about $25 at the time, unless I'm messing up my math) versus the ¥6000-¥9000 of standard Bubble Era tapes. And they're loaded with previews for a huge variety of games as well as official trailers and other interesting things. You can see the full index with timestamps on the YT video description! I've managed to get my hands on the full Famimaga Video set, so you can look forward to all kinds of interesting things in the months ahead. As I type this, I'm digitizing an issue that includes previews of Castlevania III and an interview with Yuji Horii about Dragon Quest IV....
