I went into this episode intending to close the book on NES Works Gaiden 1985, as you can see from the hosting segments, which I wrote and recorded in between playing the games for footage and actually putting together the scripts. But then I ended up going into a lot more detail about all four of the final Famicom games for the year than anticipated, so I'm afraid you'll just have to wait an extra week for Segaiden's Master System journey to begin. Consider that transition my Solstice gift to you. Or something.

Anyway, I did not enjoy these two games at all, which you may be able to deduce from the commentary here. But I did get to write a little about Nausicäa of the Valley of the Wind, so I'm calling it a net positive all the same.

I had intended to make this the final episode of NES Works Gaiden 1985, but wouldn't you know it? I ended up having too much to say to fit four games into a single episode. So our collective suffering drags on another week.... although the final two games aren't actually too bad. These two stinkers, on the other hand, will make you regret the existence of the Nintendo Family Computer, as both convert decent games from more powerful hardware and make a hash of it. Thexder hails from Japanese home computers, a Game Arts shooter that almost makes the whole "transforming robot" thing work! Not here, though. And Exed Exes helped Capcom build its way to arcade superstardom. You wouldn't know it to play this adaptation, however. Thanks, Square and Tokuma Soft, for helping to cause the Famicom crash. If only it had happened sooner! Production notes: Why watch when you can read? I know Nintendo's draconian policies eventually led to them losing their dominance on the western video game industry, but whoa boy we did not need to see games like this out west. And the fact you're not doing Famicom 1986 means you miss some of the prime kusoge that Shinya Arino has played for GCCX - notably SPACE HUNTER. So many deeply baffling creations from folks punching WAY above their weight class.

Please add a flashing lights warning somewhere for that Exed Exes Hi-Point sequence. I'm not particularly sensitive, but I got pretty queasy looking at it, I can't imagine how bad it would be for someone who has the trigger.
