Howdy, backers! Here's a quick update for you on upcoming projects, before things go totally bonkers for me.

I was hoping to kick off the Good Nintentions video series this weekend — you know, to coincide with the 30th anniversary of the NES — but a few things have come up. The most significant is that I don't have all the equipment I need yet. Specifically, I need a special splitter cable that'll allow me to output video to an RGB-21 lead for HD capture and also SD analog video via component output to a CRT so I can make Zapper and R.O.B. games work correctly. It's very complicated, and I'm having a cable custom-built for the purpose... but it's still not quite ready. Hopefully soon! But episodes 4 and 5 will be Zapper games, and I want to be sure I can capture those games in HD before I launch the series.

The other complication is that tomorrow I'm making a trip to NYU to interview, uh, Masayuki Uemura. As in, the guy who designed the NES. It was kind of a last-minute thing, but there's no way I can turn down that opportunity. "Hey Jeremy, would you like to meet the guy who invented the NES?" "Ehhhh... that's OK, I'm going to stay home for business as usual." Yeah, no.

Which leads to the final component of the time squeeze: The Good Nintentions book, the proof of which arrived in the mail yesterday. It's been through a few copy edit passes, but as always seeing the thing in the flesh makes it easier to spot errors — I'm about a third of the way through a massive round of revisions and corrections. The thing is huge! I've owned smaller phone books. And I want to make sure it's as close to flawless as possible. Plus, I may need to add a last-minute spread, depending on how the Uemura interview goes...

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me for a complicated but exciting turn of events. I'm taking my GBA and Everdrive with me to Portland Retro Gaming Expo this weekend to put in some time with upcoming Game Boy World titles, so once I'm back, I'll be able to jump back into the swing of things.

P.S., if you're at PRGE this weekend, let me know! I'd love to get you into a Retronauts episode, or on video for Good Nintentions.

Wow, this is looking really great. I'll be at PRGE as well if you'd like any input, I'm sure my wallet will need a break by then.

I shudder to ask, but do you have a price in mind for that book yet?

Jeremy Parish

It looks like the color version will be $50 if I want to make any money at all on it (I'd net just shy of $5 per book at that price), but there'll be a B&W edition that should be priced below $20.
