I added a few new pieces of capture hardware to my recording setup over the summer: A Mega SD for convenient Sega CD capture, a Wide Boy 64 GBC for Game Boy Color, and an Intelligent System GBA capture kit for Game Boy Advance. Here's the first results of the lattermost addition.

Like Game Boy Works Color and N64 Works, I see GB Works Advance as a secondary project for the time being, much less critical than my focus on NES Works 1987. But I have been wanting to add this series to the rotation for quite a while, and I'm glad I was finally able to make it happen.

And all because of YOU and your support! If it weren't for your continued patronage of my video projects, I wouldn't be able to afford to invest in the high-end capture gear that makes these Works look so crisp and clean. Thank you for making this passion project possible.

Super Mario Advance retrospective: Blighted by voices | Game Boy Works Advance #001

A new series begins here to round out the entirety of the Game Boy family's history. At the very least, we'll explore the early days of Game Boy Advance and how Nintendo and their partners brought more than a decade of handheld gaming experience to bear on a system that was (generally) powerful enough to allow them to realize their grander ambitions. As we can see from this very first release for GBA, it was a transitional process....

Ahh, I'm so excited for this series! The GBA was my first console of any kind, and my friends and I were more into Super Mario Advance than any other game at the time. I guess that's why the muffled music and scratchy voices don't bother me. Also- the Yoshi Egg mode is really clever and adds a whole new challenge to the game. Beating it was one of my crowning middle school achievements.

The intro really should have been "SHUT THE HE(CK/LL) UP TOAD... it's Game Boy Works Advance."
