Hi everyone, I received word over the weekend that the NES Works 1986 books have shipped from the printer to Fangamer.

For those of you who are at the book tier: Fangamer should be sending over enough copies to me to mail along to you once they arrive. NES Works 1985 is going to take a little longer to come in since it entered production later, so I'll mail them separately.

For everyone in general: I'm hard at work on the year's third book… but it turns out it won't be done this year. That's because I've decided to create something more ambitious that what I had originally planned. I was looking to compile some existing Anatomy of Games writings and call it a day, but based on many, many requests and inquiries, I've decided to combine Anatomy of Games with the Cart-ography project instead. The next book will, tentatively, take the form of a 12x12" coffee table book full of the hand-drawn game maps I've been creating over the past few months, with Anatomy of Games-style text accompanying. This will take longer to create, but I feel like it's going to be more unique and more desirable. Hopefully you'll be on board with the trade-off as well?

Currently I have created maps for the following games:

  • Metroid
  • Metal Gear MSX
  • Castlevania
  • The Goonies
  • Castlevania II

And I would also like to include as many of the following as possible:

  • The Goonies II
  • Metroid II
  • Metal Gear NES
  • River City Ransom
  • The Legend of Zelda

And perhaps a few more, if I'm able. Maybe Mega Man or Wonder Boy III?

My plan is to commit at least an hour every day through the end of the year to drawing maps. At the end of the year, I'll take these maps and begin compiling them into a book, adding in descriptive text and screenshot comparisons to whatever degree I can. My hope is to end up with a book that comes in somewhere between 100-120 pages, for a proper coffee table book experience.

I will post updates as I make progress. I'm tackling River City Ransom next and intend to work on The Goonies II this coming weekend at Super Famicon in Greensboro — feel free to stop by and say hey if you make it that way.

I also hope to offer posters of these maps through Fangamer… we're working out some of the logistics there and should have news soon.

Please let me know if you have thoughts or questions about any of this!

Are you still going to do the Cart-Ography streams and have the Cart-Ography tier for patreon?

Jeremy Parish

Streams yes, if I️ can get them to work. Tier definitely – I️ will continue to take requests and create maps and send patrons the original hand-drawn maps. I️ mapped out Castlevania II over the weekend, by request, and am working on a River City Ransom request now.
