Hey everyone, it's a new month, and a new video to go with it. Thanks to everyone who stayed aboard (or came aboard) after the change to this campaign's structure! As a word of forewarning, November content will likely be a little more sparse than last month's as I will be making two cross-country trips amidst the thick of review season, and I'm trying to finish out some other projects. I'll try and make up for it with quality: Expect the first Anatomy of Final Fantasy VI video and the first Metroidvania piece sometime this month. Books from the previous campaign phase will be going out into the mail this week, so please be sure your mailing address is up to date! The next book is set for early 2015 and will probably be a complete compilation of all Game Boy releases for 1989... Thanks as always for helping to make these little projects possible!

Game Boy World #019: Shogi (Pony Canyon, 1989)

The third Japan-only Game Boy release, and the third based on a very Japan-specific pastime. Coincidence? Ummm... no. Shogi presents the classic Japanese counterpart to chess in about as stripped-down a format as possible, with barely adequate visuals, no music, and hilariously lethargic artificial intelligence.

I actually thought that silence was in there accidentally until the CPU finally made it's move. I can't imagine actually playing a game with that.
