August 2020 Roundup (Patreon)

Hey everyone! August has come to an end, so here's a detailed roundup of everything I worked on in the past month, exclusively for patrons.

PhotoStack

This month I reworked the process for importing images on PhotoStack. The code for selecting images (which supported multi-select) and selecting ZIP files (which did not support multi-select) has been unified, so you can now import multiple ZIPs and images in the same batch. There's also now a loading indicator that makes it clear when all selected images have been imported.

The new unified code also means I was able to properly add a a feature I've personally wanted in PhotoStack for a while: drag and drop! Now you can import any combination of images and ZIP files just by dragging them from your file manager to PhotoStack. It's pretty great to use, and helps make PhotoStack feel more like a native application.

As a result of the new unified import, the keyboard shortcut for specifically importing ZIP files (SHIFT + Z) has been removed, because the shortcut for importing images (SHIFT + O) now handles both.

Tipjar

I mentioned in last month's post that I'm working on Tipjar, a browser extension that will make financially supporting your favorite websites and content creators as easy as clicking a button in the browser toolbar. During August, I fixed the last breaking bugs for a v1.0 release, and submitted the extension for review to the Chrome Web Store and Firefox add-ons site.

Google is still reviewing the extension, but Mozilla let me know there are some code changes I need to make before it can appear on the Firefox add-ons repository. I plan on integrating those changes and re-submitting soon.
