Latest batch of work on the Hive !

Maddie made her first appearance so her bustset is fully integrated now. This part is pretty tedious as I have to crop every picture to the same size and control if anything is amiss.

Even the code look boring ! It works the same way as for other characters : there's a basic pose (with hands down or arms crossed for example) and, over it, modular elements like mouth, eyes, accidents, etc.

Next was a scene in the living-room bringing together all the members of the « family ». It's where June is finally introduced to Maddie.

June have to investigate the background and find a way to connect with her new roomate. I made a little animation for the show Maddie is watching on tv.

Since this is the first background in which you can interact with a character, I had to make a dialogue tree.

The mechanism is simple : each picture you look at unlock a new topic of conversation with Maddie. Easier to say than to do ! It was a good way to learn about boleans which are basically on/off switches to make something happen or not.

But it wasn't enough for the dialogue tree itself so I used lists. Lists are basically a way to compress several of those switches into a bigger switch. Then you can make conditions based on several parameters.

Just learning how all that work and getting familiar with it took ages. But the result is here so I'm happy.

Next week I'll be back working on backgrounds, there's only two left to do for Sato's house.
