Latest batch of work on The Hive!

I grossly underestimated the time it would take to have even one background done.

I tend to work on the Hive on saturday morning since I like the project so much and it usually allow me to show a bit more. But even with the extra time, the backgrounds seems to be the most time consuming aspect of the production yet.

As you may have seen in the last pre-production post, I work with a 3D artist. I draw details and objects over the 3D render. It allows me to speed up the process a bit. The linework still took me ages.

I've gone with only flats colors, with minimal shadows, in order to cut corners.

I then draw every object on a separate layer. The idea is that I can add or remove objects during the game and also make them clickable.

Here's an example of what it should looks like in game. The arrows will be clickable and allow the player to explore the area. Each of the objects with highlight should be clickable too.

I think doing each separate object is what took me the most time, outside of the linework.

And finally, I did a night version as well!

Next week, I plan on working on Perpetual Change again. But for the next batch of work on the Hive, I'd like to sketch another background and work on two new outfits.

Looks good! Will the Hive be more point-and-click style or will there be rpg elements as well? Not sure if this was asked/answered already.

looking at this i wonder if your taking inspiration from telltale's the walking dead serires or just an average point and click?

Thank you for putting so much effort in the making of your game!

It will be a visual novel and a point and click. The only "rpg" element would be an inventory, but that's not something uncommon for a point and click.

Just an average point and click! For reference, I looked at other visual novels, both vanilla visual novels and erotic visual novels.

Thanks for the kind words! I'm not the only one working on this project, we're brainstorming the story with Personalias and someone is helping me for the 3D renders of the backgrounds!

Tbh I’m super siked for this. I enjoyed perpetual change but this seems like it’s going to be easier to make and it’s going to have so much art!

PieceofSoap

Easier, I'm not sure because the game engine is still an unknown, but dialogues and scenes will be faster to do, that's for sure!
