Midnight Reign design blog - part 2 (Patreon)

This is the first appearance of what would become Midnight Reign. I wanted to include a lot of the original color scheme but work to keep it cool looking. 

That was the main priority: looking cool. Normally, when I get into designing something, my initial process ends up being significantly more complicated in design and I start peeling things back. Is it efficiency? Is it laziness? The first one sounds better than the second, so we'll go with that one.

She was originally going to have a chest cut out for her suit, but I ultimately decided against it as that was pretty much the calling card of Salvadora - it also felt a bit cheap and not cool. Keep in mind, that's the underlining most important factor here. The two things that changed the most throughout the process is how her jacket and gauntlets looked. A core part of her design was that I wanted her to have giant gauntlets (for reasons), but I didn't know how to make them look all that interesting. The initial design was closer to what her initial long gloves were, but it made dealing with bending at the elbows overly complicated and never felt entirely right. I didn't know exactly where I wanted to go at this point in time, either, so I just kept at this design. Her coat also ended up getting bigger as well from the initially small jacket in the colored drawing. These particular pieces are all from 2020, most of them from a giant doodle page I used to do apart of my old Patreon.

Anyway, long story short, this is all the overly detailed stuff that gets paired down or refitted because I'm just trying to scrub away all the extra to get to the core. She also maintained her old spike-ball hair from her Sunshine Savior design.
