HDF: Year 2 (Patreon)

Hey everyone!

In June we passed our 1 year anniversary of working on HDF! Thank you so much to everyone who has supported us so far. Your support means a lot to us.

Me and Peku have been looking hard at HDF, what’s working, what isn’t, what we think we should be changing for year 2. Because of that there’s going to be some updates here from August onwards so we wanted to give you pre-warning and also let you know what’s going on. :)

Rebranding

First of all, we’re going to rebrand HDF. We haven’t finalised the new name yet but we want to include ‘Czepeku’ in it.

We’re thinking: 
Czepeku Sci-Fi, Czepeku Sci-Fi Maps, Czepeku Hyperdrive, Czepeku SF Maps, etc.

Let us know what you think!

Why the change? Mostly because even after a year of HDF people still message us on a weekly basis asking if we’ll ever make sci-fi maps, not realising that we already do! The name isn’t helping that. So we want to make it clearer that it's us behind this new project.

More Maps

Next, we’re working up to 5 releases per month. That way we’ll have greater room for a range of themes. For the first 6 months of HDF we focused entirely on spaceships. We’re still making ships but we want to keep branching out into wider sci-fi worlds.

Currently we’re thinking:

• 1 part of a massive multi-release ship
• 1 cyberpunk map
• 1 mech/1 individual ship
• 1 alien planet map
• 1 boss room map

Animations

Part of the upcoming changes will include less animations per month. We’re going down to 1-2 per month, like how we have it set up on Czepeku. We know this might disappoint some of you but we want to focus our efforts on more battlemaps, assets and more useful animations. We’d love your thoughts on this but from speaking to patrons we get the feeling that animated backgrounds and assets might be more useful than animated maps. Like laser, debris or thruster packs that can be used again and again. So we think that might be a better thing to focus on too! Let us know what you’d like to see there.

Levelling Up

We want to reward those of you who aren’t just dipping in and out each month but are staying subscribed for the long haul. You're the real stars! So for those of you who have been subscribed for X months we’ll be emailing you extra free maps and other content as a thank you. This will probably include assets for customizing the ships, character and alien tokens, new space and planet backdrops and more.

We’re going to be doing this across Czepeku, HDF and Scenes. So that separately from our current library of content, there’ll be certain maps that will only be available once you’ve been a patron for 3 moths, 6 months, 1 year, etc.

Website

We’re updating our website so that it shows all of the non-ship content we’ve been making. With dedicated pages for planetary maps and mechs. As well as being able to search by theme, like ‘alien’, ‘military’, etc. So that it’s even easier to see everything we’ve made, and get the exact map or ship you need for your game night!

Discord

The HDF discord has always been a bit quiet and it’s been difficult for me and Peku to stay active there along with the other servers we run. So what we’ve decided to do is to merge the HDF server with the server that Czepeku Maps and Czepeku Scenes uses. We’ll keep this single server for all future projects too, with dedicated categories for each. That way it’ll be easier for folks to come and chat about sci-fi games and find other players without having a whole new server to join and navigate.

More Polls and Suggestions

Whilst we’ve been getting ourselves comfortable making sci-fi maps the polls have been quite sparse but we want to hear your opinions more on what you’re looking for from us.

We also really want to encourage more people to join the Discord and leave us suggestions for sci-fi maps and ships. On Czepeku the majority of our maps come from patron suggestions, we want that to be the same for this project too! We’re making these for you after all. :)
