Hey guys! So, while I’m not used to do these kind of things, I kinda wanted to give you a WIP about Aeris. I even have a few screenshots about it!

Topic: Canon sucks.

Aeris represents everything when I say you should not aim for canon, you should aim for what you like. This is Aeris.

You may think she’s thicc in the right places, but no. What you are seeing is the jacket. And no, that dress is really concealing it.

Here’s how she truly looks like in canon.

This is why it’s important to not stick to canon guys, please, do not stick to canon, because canon restricts your creativity! The best works are made by people who take the freedom to create the characters in the world they want.

Of course I will not do canon. So, I read her bio for a bit, and these were my observations:

  • She uses staves, since she’s a White Mage.

  • Because of that, it means she’s not a martial artist, she’s a mage.

  • She sells flower.

  • I wanted to make a joke about her fate, but I think there’s people who actually haven’t played the game and they think FFVII looks bad enough to not play it.

This led me to a conclusion: she has a slim body, but she doesn’t have a toned look because she is not a fighter (despite her claims of growing up in the slums)

So, after I brought those conclusions to Daz, I also took a some freedoms with her. This is how she looks at the moment.

Topic: Her current state.

So, I would have liked to mention this as soon as possible, and I think I won’t wait anymore, so here we go: she’s not getting a Subdivision Surface figure.

The thing is, I’m still not sure how those figures behave, and I haven’t got any feedback about it, so I won’t risk an actual Patreon model without enough feedback.

Ok, with that out of the way, here’s now her current state.

She’s is currently in Alpha state. What does Alpha state means? Well, in very short: all the base process is done, now we are getting into outfitting.

Because I actually did work earlier today, when I ended this process, I still had 1 more hour left, so I decided to get a little ahead by fitting a couple of items. And I think it was a fucking mistake.

Outfitting.

I’m not afraid of her outfit for the most part. Her Ribbon will naturally come into place, her boot is a bit complex, so I will just bodygroup her feet, she doesn’t have gloves, which is always a great thing, but the dress… Man… this dress is horrible. It’s fucking horrible.

What totally kills it is the length. And I don’t mean it like I wish it was shorter for sexyness, no. I wish it was shorter because if it was a pain to fucking fit, it’s going to be worse to pose with more than 180 bones.

This dress kicked my ass. It was a painful experience to fit… I did every single technique I knew to get this dress fitted, and man it wasn’t enough. The dress alone took me the full hour to fit it and even more. This is how it looks.

Hopefully the bone structure didn't get too messed up. I tried my best to pose her back since it was the most problematic area.

I don’t know if I’m the only model builder that does this, but I’m pretty certain model builders names their files according to their current mood.

The positive thing, is that the jacket is not rigged because I assume is not a loose jacket in-game, the only parts rigged are the belt straps, so it should be an ea-Damn… it is rigged… welp, from what I can see, the rig is pretty lenient, so it should not be too hard to fit. Keyword “should.” Once her jacket is fitted, we are basically done since her bracelets are actually pretty easy to fit.

Speaking of bracelets, I’m very surprised with this model. Each bracelet is fully modeled, which is not surprising at all, however, each bracelet is poseable, which means free fit! Its bones also has the suffix phy, which is easy to assume why it has that suffix. Because they can be posed, I’m thinking about not making them a bodygroup.

You see, the regular way to do this, is making each bracelet an individual bodygroup, for a total of 6 bodygroups (3 for each hand) and if you were to turn them off because you don’t want to pose them, then you would right click the model, highlight the bodygroup, deactivate it, and repeat for each one. Since they are rigged individually, I think it’s just easier to go to the Unknown tab, grab those six bones and move them away from the scene and call it day, and if you changed your mind, you can just load another instance of the bodygroup and hide everything else. To make things easier, what I can actually do is just make them a separate model altogether to make this even easier and faster.

So yeah, this is how things are going. I’m actually optimist about this, so let’s keep up with that optimism! That’s all for now guys, please wash your hands!
