An excuse to post. (Patreon)

 Hey guys!

So during this day, I was thinking about making a post in here about the research I’m doing. The research is basically me needing to understand how viable is still to run this Patreon page. There has been a couple of reforms here and there, and one of them kinda endangers the viability of Patreon, because if I need to pay more, then Patreon is going to stop being viable.

Anyway, because of this, I was doing my research and so far it’s still looking like an ongoing thing, which is kinda obnoxious. I don’t honestly have a reason to make a post about it, I thought, because I honestly have nothing to say. Then it kinda dawned on me: with the current ongoing events **in the world** remaining silent is, literally, a really fucking bad idea. So I just thought about an excuse to make a post, and here it is!

Plans for Patreon.

I will be quick on this one. Please, I’m asking you guys, do not unpledge. I will keep pausing this Patreon page so you guys won’t get charged. Please remain at ease you won’t be charged.

Until I have a clearer picture (or bite the bullet), I will keep the Patreon page paused. Please keep in mind I haven’t forgotten about the models I owe you… I think I forgot who they are exactly but I haven’t forgotten I owe models period. If I remember properly, it was Zafina, Sheva and Aeris.

I know I owe them, and you will get them, and please be at ease: I won’t do any submission or charge you guys any money UNTIL you get those models.

Changes on the book.

I will keep one of the reasons of why I began to wrote the model building book to myself. I will however, do a change on the writing.

As I mentioned (I hope I did), I wanted to write a book about Model Building, where I tell you guys a lot of stuff about model building and try to cover as many things as I can, so you can reduce the googling dependency to the minimum. I’m aware that you can never get rid of Googling dependency, but I hope with the writing I’m doing, I will keep them to a minimum so all you guys need to do is just re-read a couple of paragraphs and call it day.

One of the things I hope I did mention as well, was the fun/sarcastic remarks I wanted to use on the book, so that way it feels like you are reading something that is fun, and not something to be considered 100% serious. While I’m not removing most of my remarks (my favorite so far is a Shub-Niggurath one), I will change the tone on one particular topic: Blender Python.

You see, when I was writing the chapter which consists in preparing the figure with bone renaming and bone reparenting and more, I did a lot of sarcastic remarks about how poor you reader who doesn’t know how to program and need to spend 4 hours in something that takes me 6 seconds to do.

At first, I thought it was hilarious, however, as I continued writing, I noticed it stopped being hilarious real quick and turned into something just insulting. Because of this, I decided to do two major changes:

• I’m going to change my tone on the whole Blender Python topic and remove every single sarcastic remark.  
   
• My original plan was to not include anything aside of the book, however, I’m going to include some of my Workflow Blender Python scripts with you. While I want you guys to learn Blender Python by yourself, I just thought ‘you don’t need programming skills to load a text file and click “Run Script.”
   

Unfortunately, when I wrote those scripts, I wrote them with the intention of shit that just works. This means some of the scripts are just undocumented spaghetti code. If I want to share them, I need to refactor them and document them, so at least people know what the fuck are they doing.

On the Book topic, it’s interesting. I have something around 50 pages written and 4 of them are only on the, currently incomplete, Model Building Day 2 (or 3?). Some of the topics that took so many pages are a short glossary, Methodology to why choose XPS over SFM/Valve’s models, and the history behind my coined term Flex Destruction and some tips in how to avoid it. I’m under no rush on writing this book, but I want it to be as good as I can do it.

About the “C-with-a-number-word” situation.

This thing was what made me do this post. Thankfully, I’m ok. Please guys, remain indoors and listen to the indications. Please do not medicate yourself. Keep calm, soon this is going to be an anecdote of a time “where media did a little too much coverage of this virus and people thought toilet paper suddenly became edible.”  

Remember: this virus doesn’t affect PCs. Use your PC! Play some games, chat with some friends, or more importantly, try to do some tests on either SFM or Blender, give a shot to learn Python and/or learn RenPy, who knows! after all, when you run out of food, you can will go get another food batch and keep going, let’s try to get the most value as possible out of this horrible situation!
