Not sure if they’ve ever disclosed how old Zeref was when he stopped aging but he might also be a teenager physically (though definitely older than Mavis)

This was the final season of the main story. Fairy Tail 100 year quest is technically a sequel. The main story has wrapped up in the anime. Not to say FT 100 year quest is a filler or anything. It's cannon, but it's a new story following the original.
