You know, you guys are probably one of the very few reactors who caught onto to the exact reason Tanjiro couldn't decide who to save. Something I thought about after watching some reactions, was that, while its usually typical for people to choose to save their sibling/family over strangers, it seems some people didn't quite think about Tanjiro's mission as a demon slayer: In this anime world, Tanjiro made a serious vow to protect humans from demons, when he became a demon slayer. This is also rooted in the fact that he completely understands that, even if he feels pity for some of the demons he had slain, he knows he had to do it anyway, and further was at least aware he would have to make sacrifices to uphold this vow. He took this very seriously from the start, and while he did this all because of his wish to cure Nezuko (granted the entire show started because of it), he knew he still had to stick to his status as a slayer. Being placed in the horrible situation he was in, choosing between Nezuko and the humans being threatened by a hungry demon, Tanjiro, for the first time, directly questions himself as a slayer. He knew he had to save the humans from the renegade Upper Moon, but what made this so dangerously hard is that his own sister was burning to death in his arms. He loved her too much to let her go and he was unable to make the choice he knew inside he should've made... and Nezuko ended up making it for him when she kicked him off. Despite her childlike-state, I think even she understood to some degree, Tanjiro's mission as a demon slayer and knew he had to save the people.. even if it meant losing her, because in the end, Nezuko was still a demon. If he had failed to go after Hantengu, all their work up to that point in the season would've been for nothing, and Kanroji would've likely died as well as many other people. I realize the series started because she was turned into a demon, but this was something I had thought about after watching the season finale, and it clearly did make sense why she purposely kicked him off, knowing she would die. She knew what he had to do, because he was a demon slayer in the end. Sorry if this dragged xD, just wanted to put some thoughts out. I'm glad you two did seem to catch onto this tho. I loved both of your reactions btw!!
