It wasn't the cost of life the spell took, but rather time. That's why she aged so much. I thought it was a nice way to tie things up for Ultear's character.

I think if you rated this arc a 9 the filler will be a solid 5 at best lol. I think GMG is at least a 9 personally. It's one of the very best. Tenrou was an 8-8.5 and Tartaros (coming up after a short cannon arc) is easily 9-9.5!

Ultear was one of the first characters seen in the manga. Jellal was there but he was based on Seigheart from Rave Masters. So it's kinda heart breaking to see her go. From Villain to a prominent role of the saving humanity.

the "demon generals" cobra referred to are basically the other oracion seis members. and the "gate of the underworld", was, as jellal said, tartaros, one of the 3 most powerful dark guilds in the baram alliance, and also the only one now lmao since grimoire heart and oracion seis were destroyed by fairy tail. it was explained in episode 51, if you rewatch it. reference to greek mythology: the underworld is hell, the realm of hades, and tartarus is the deepest and darkest part of hell where the titans were trapped after zeus chopped them up into like a million pieces after defeating them, since they were too powerful to actually be killed. about the actual episode - this one hit hard, the shot of the 3 birds as 1 of them leaves the trio is symbolic of ultear leaving jellal and meldy, shit was sad 😢 ultear really is one of my favourite characters, her progression was so well done, her entire life was fkd up and she was overridden with guilt and sadness, but gray turned her life around and she got a new lease on life... still sad that she went so young, this episode always gets me crying, and gray's realization, that both the mother and daughter sacrificed their lives for him, damn. just... damn 😭
