Before you go watching the show you should check out The Moon Rises and Lullaby For A Princess. They are two fan-animations that accurately tell the story that sets up episode one. We don't get any context for that story until season 4, so if you're going for a brief look that'll set you up for context. It's also non-copyrighted material. One is show accurate animation, and the other was drawn entirely by one person. The two songs basically take place at the same time, but its two entirely different perspectives on what happened on that night.
