Nice you guys reached the pinacle of fate, enjoy your trip! Also as an explanation Fate/stay night is original an eroge visual novel with 3 different girls to choose from and because of that they created 3 alternativ 5th Holy Grail War story's with Fate, UBW and Heavens Feel. Also as you might have guessed at this point the focus in Heavens Feel lies on Sakura as in UBW on Rin.

all the three routes "Fate", "UBW" and "Heaven's Feel" have basically the same beginning up until the day the holy grail war starts then they branch out with new routes and possibilities, (they also have some recurring similarities). Don't think of the other routes as "what could have happened" think of it as three real canon routes, that also connects with the other.

So you guys were basically right about it being different to UBW, but to explain it in more detail after Fate/Zero the series split into 3 alternate timelines/routes which are: "Unlimited Blade Works" Route Which you just finished. "Heavens Feel" Route Which you just started. And the "Fate" Route Which is the poorly adapted 2006 Studio Deen anime that you shouldn't watch. Basically they all start out similar as you noticed, but throughout it all a lot of things happen very differently such as different love interests for example.

I always wondered this not to call anyones bluff but care tell how the 2006 route is poorly adapted? In detail ofc I’d prefer if animation is not brought up at all since well animations not everything and it’s from 2006 lol

As someone who's watched that.. I can say its pretty dogwater. I myself loved that route because I'm a saber simp but if you take out the animation, the execution of the storyline was weirdly paced and by the end, you just don't get the same emotional attachment. Add in the absolute dogwater animation and its definitely not a good one lol. For 2006 standards, it was definitely bad. There were tons of animation way better in that era. It becomes even worse when compared to story execution of both UBW and Heaven's Feel now that all three are available. Might just be my opinion but it does seem like alot of people share this view.

The Shinji hate makes me sad, hes my favorite character. A realistic interpretation of magecraft on a person with none. Plus, its not said in the anime but Shinji was controlled by Zouken the whole time, and fully manipulated. Blame Zouken!!
