Laxus also lost the ability to use one of his legs, but still had most of his magical power, so he wouldn't be able to fight back much, even with his power. So he gave his power to the only one able to use it. Laxus still had his dragon powers he could use if not for the leg injury. Also gildarts while being nerfed from his injuries, Also was getting beating up by blue note when he didn't have any magical power to defend himself. Blue note is likely stronger than Laxus and for like 3 to 5 minutes he was just beating on a defenseless Gildarts.

I get what Faxx is saying about "one time power ups" but I agree with Neel that it would make him waayyy too op if he got to keep it every time. But that doesn't mean he won't keep things here and there. There is a lot of canon story to go, and then hopefully 100 years quest has started by the time you finish this. So there's plenty of time for more traditional power ups.

The one where he gets the scales is called dragon force. It’s something that dragon slayers can activate if they have enough strength to do it. The only issue is that natsu just doesn’t have that much power which is why he got it while eating the blue magic Crystal and the special flame. They gave him the boost but his power alone couldn’t get him to that level.

Two reasons why Natsu was able to eat Laxus' lightning is again the mental wave length between the love of the guild and wanting to avenge the people they love (finally acknowledging Natsu) and the second reason is because it's the same kind of magic (Dragon Slayer magic). Before Laxus only used regular lightning on Natsu and kept his dragon Slayer magic hidden. And Mashima wanted to do something different and unexpected. (Keeping the "magic" of this series alive, doing something that seemed impossible) I think people forget that sometimes and get bogged down in traditional scale and rules.

Gotta love Laxus lame ass excuse to why he's there. I believe he actually felt like something wasn't right (a shiver down his spine or when your eye twitches randomly). Everyone in Fairy tail knew it was that time of the year so of course Laxus would know too. His arrival is so hype and it does feel like we haven't seen him in 100s of episodes. That's what I like about Fairy tail quick stories that feel long. And when someone comes back it feels like you're seeing your favorite cousin after a year or more

I have a take as to why Natsu is able to eat Laxus lightning and that he uses a dragon lacrima that was infused with him, which is why Natsu is able to consume it because it is basically transferring the lacrima in a sense to Natsu

The only reason Natsu passed out after his fight with Zancrow was because it was two different types of Slayer magic but it was still a flame. You can't mix the two without major side effects. Thankfully Wendy was there and he burnt through that magic.

I think Laxus did feel his grandpa got hurt and came to save the guild. He said he came here to visit Mavis's grave just because he is tsundere and cool.

It's not that natsu doesn't have "much power" it's due to the fact that there's tiers in the strength of dragon force other dragon slayers dragon force isn't on the same tier as natsus, his dragon force is soo powerful that he can't bring it out on his own, without training which is why outsource energy depending on the source can get him there

Natsu dragon force/ power in general is just too different to really dive into without discussing spoilers. He def isn’t on the same scale as other dragon slayers just because of who he is
