Also, I like that they left the mystery of what the thing actually was to be open-ended and unsolved -- sort of like the mysterious entity from back in 'Midnight' -- as the point of the story seems to not be about the creature-of-the-week, but the emotional journey around it. Plus, I think it just showed that because the Doctor himself had had that particular dream as a kid, perhaps he was just assuming that EVERYONE has had that dream too. But there was no proof of that -- it was just conjecture. I mean, I know I've never had that dream myself and several people in fandom at the time said the same thing, but again, I think that's the point -- the Doctor thinks it's some universal experience, extrapolating it to be much bigger than it might actually be in reality. Because he can be flawed, too. And because he wants so badly to prove his theory 'right' that he's overlooking some basic facts (i.e. the dream is likely not as universal as he thinks and, possibly, the 'monster' isn't even real after all).

P.S. I'm sure I've said it before, but as a polyamorous person myself, the Doctor/River relationship is SO PERFECT to me. I just really love their openness and how good they are for each other. And it's so nice and refreshing to see a relationship that is healthy and not mired in possessiveness or jealously -- which I hate, personally. Sadly, that's uncommon on TV and so with Doctor/River, I AM SO HERE FOR IT! <3
