Owen was never my favourite but I think you concentrate too much on the character which ramps up your annoyance/dislike. Separating that it's Owen, that storyline was good in showing this independent woman who sees a man who isn't going to measure up so she takes charge of her destiny. I wish she'd figured it out in this time but she was a rule breaker and not many of those for her to break now. As for John(?) I think his arc was poignant in that he didn't want to watch his son fade away. He'd had a wonderful life on his terms in his time and staying would just be unending torture.
