I’ll defend Love And Monsters to the hilt. It isn’t the greatest episode ever, but it has such heart and is a lovely little curio in the Doctor Who world. A group of lonely people come together, form a close bond only for someone to come along and ruin it, is a telling metaphor for the toxic elements of ‘Who’ fandom I love Jackie in this, she is also lonely, and her - shall we say ‘frisky’ ways have been hinted at several times before. Yes we could have done without the monster, which, by the way, was a winning drawing on a UK in a children’s TV show. I have always thought that most of what we see has been wildly embellished by the narrator -Elton. The Scooby Do chase, the internet ‘exploding’ and so on. It would not surprise me if the actual Monster, as well as Lynda ending up as a paving slab is also part of his fantasy. A loner who has never come to terms with the death of his Mother, so creates a fantasy world around himself.
