no, they actually did back in the 80's and 90's. However I'm one of the few people who actually caught chickenpox twice as a child. (It's rare but does happen)

I got chickenpox and mumps as a kid. The latter was bloody awful. But best to have them as a kid.

Also yes I grew up poor too, I couldn't afford any kind of games so it was pretty embarrassing seeing the other kids play on their game boy advances while i just sat there or how other kids had extracurricular activities and had soccer and ice skating lessons I was like I just go home and watched PBS kids until my mom came home LMAO. Also yay for Bojack and Bobs

People used to have Pox Parties, but due to greater awareness of complications that can happen in childhood chickenpox, like encephalitis, it made the idea of intentionally infecting your kids with it seem kinda nutty. Plus in the mid 90s a vaccine was developed for the virus which further made the idea of "getting it over with" unfashionable and the whole practice slowly died out.

Oh yeah, my parents and my friends' parents had children pox parties for us when I was a kid.

I actually am an outlier as I caught it twice as a kid. I was born in 1980 so as an infant I caught a very mild case, but later on I had a bad case when I was around 5 to 6 years old.
