That is not accurate lol, I was on unemployment for a couple months a few years back and I only received about $100 a week. But that's the stereotype that rich people use to cut welfare, "Oh those bums make more on benefits than they do working, we need to cut welfare or they'll never want to work at all!" It's bullshit lol

Also welfare barely exists in the US anymore since it was slashed all to hell in the 90s, once your unemployment runs out you're fucked unless you qualify for disability, which is also a tiny piddling amount

Unemployment can be a good chunk of change, depending on what you were paid before losing your job. Unemployment isn't government assistance, but is your money that is deducted from your paychecks. You're eligible to to draw from it if you lose your job at no fault of your own for as long as you need until you find gainful employment (or until you run out). I lost my job due to COVID, and my weekly unemployment was around $400/wk...which really isn't great. Welfare is government assistance, and other citizens' tax money. It's a lot harder to get on welfare, because people could take advantage of it and leech off the system. Disability is government assistance for people who can't work due to injury or other disabilities.
