Lady Beyond The Wall

The religious aspect of this show is interesting. I've seen some reactors ignore it or get annoyed by it because they aren't religious themselves and then they end up missing context because they just blank out whenever someone mentions god or gods. But one doesn't have to be religious themselves to pay attention to it or find it interesting, or realize its importance to the show. I had to stop watching one guys reactions because he'd go on 10 minute rants (not exaggerating) about the non-existence of a higher power and how "stupid" religion is whenever religion would come up in the show and I wanted to die each time. Idk, it's not hard for me to watch another culture talk about their religion as it is for some people I guess. 😂 Anyway - the humans keep talking about the "lords" of Kobol, and say "gods".. so they have multiple. Which I personally found fascinating. Oh and as other people have said, once the show starts, part of the intro shows some fast clips of the coming episode and it can be SUPER spoilery. And they do this every episode. At a certain point you'll know its coming by drums starting up, but I don't remember when that starts because they change the intro every now and then.

Also fun fact i don’t know if anybody has brought it up yet but notice how all the paper has the corners removed. Its a writers joke about how they don’t cut corners in this show. And they certainly kept up with that.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Yeah the weird paper/books/other rectangle items having the corners cut is something I weirdly love about the show. It's just a small thing that I always notice that makes it feel different. And the fact their seconds seem to be a little longer than ours 😂 I swear their 5-10 second countdowns feel like an eternity.

I think the space battles in this show are on par with the expanse. Id consider the expanse to be more like submarine warfare where as this show is more like WW2 carriers and battle groups. A slog fest with flack and fighter planes.

In regards to the intro, I'm going to go against the grain and recommend watching them. They aren't some intro sequence put together for syndication like SG1 1-5 intros, they were specifically crafted for each episode and IMO are part of the intended viewing experience. While the scenes could be classified as spoilers, the scenes are usually such brief flashes with no audio or context and generally you don't even recognize the significance until you get to them in the episode. There might be a few particular examples that would be best to skip, but I never found them to detract from the viewing experience. To the contrary, I find they serve as an appetizer, kind of like smelling a delicious meal being cooked for an hour before you're able to eat it. So my recommendation would be to watch as intended. But yeah, that was the miniseries that kicked off one of the best shows of the past 20 years. They definitely left the ending open enough to continue, and it's to all our benefit that they got the chance. We knew Six and Leoben were cylons, and as Retro said, what are the odds that Baltar somewhat randomly points the finger at Doral and he actually IS a cylon? Of course he's got a problem now. While they can tell if a cremated corpse is cylon, Baltar kinda BS'd Tigh into believing he had a cylon detector test, and now he's going to have to actually come up with one. Also Baltar embarrassing himself by "talking to a ghost"(or getting handies from a ghost😏) is some of the best comedy in a fairly dark series. But that crazy reveal that Boomer is a cylon at the end really hooks you. That's not some random civvie or reporter, but someone who has probably spent at least a year or 2 in training, and if it's anything like real world militaries, 4 years at a university or ROTC program before that. How long have they been infiltrating? I know Lee seems like a bit of an ass, maybe somewhat of a spoiled brat at times, but I think he'll grow on you. I don't know Jamie Bamber from much outside BSG, but he gives some incredible, episode making performances throughout the series and really was a boon to the production. Edward James Olmos was a veteran actor long before this series and Adama often stands as one of the best examples of real leadership you'll ever see. There's clearly a contrast between Adama and Roslin's style of leadership, so it's be interesting to see how they work together to see humanity through this exodus. Anyway, I can't wait for you to get into the series proper. I know you're going to love it. Best part is unlike a lot of sci fi shows, you don't even have to "get through" any of it to get to the good stuff. Very few shows hit the ground running as smoothly as BSG.

Lady Beyond The Wall

Gaius is my favorite character, so I love his scenes anyway, but yeah pretty much all of the scenes where he's either trying to pay attention to someone else and Six is talking to him or she's touching him and he gets caught is some of the funniest stuff in the show. As for the intro, maybe he can watch one or two in full and see if he finds them too spoilery for his taste. Some people don't and some do - I did personally as I literally don't want to know ANYTHING (I don't even like reading the little blurbs saying what a show or movie is about before I watch it, lol) but others like yourself or my mom (she'd watch the intro and I'd look away) like the little appetizer. :)

Hok'Tar

Hey FW. You asked if this was a Canadian show. This was filmed in Vancouver with alot of Canadian actors

Timothy Nikiforovs

Yeah, there's a few throughout S1 that he'll be able to gauge if it was too spoilery for him. I can think of one or 2 of the bigger eps even I'd warn him to skip the intro.

Paul Carroll

aww love this series and also has another short series called caprika I hope Failwhale considers after BSG since its like a prequal too BSG ! have a great weekend!

DANIEL JAMES

One of the things I love about this series is the Mythology aspect, not sure if you’ve noticed, but the colonies are all named after astrological star signs (Caprica for Capricorn, Gemenon for Gemini etc) and a lot of the call signs are from Ancient Greek.

Timothy Nikiforovs

I much prefer the names from Greek mythology being callsigns than their actual names like in the original show.

James Yancy

I just thought I'd point out that there are some GREAT Stargate and BSG crossover stories out there. The two shows really do lend themselves to meshing well with each others backgrounds and Lore. The Lords of Kobol are often represented as being either Goa'uld or a faction of the Ancients, and it easily makes sense in both universes.

Tomáš Polák

I remember being hyped after watching these first few episodes, but daaayum. After so many years, this show still slaps AF! It seemed even better than I remember. Boomer is still my crush.

Superpotroast

I never watched the intro, when BSG was premiering because I didn't want to know anything about the episode I'm about to watch, even if they are out of context frames..And I tried to avoid the 'On the next' blurbs.. I also don't like the trend that Stargate and other shows get into where they put a 1-2 minute recap of previous episodes that will be relatable to the episode you're watching..I can understand doing something like that for season premiers or the first episode after a midway season break, and I understand why they do it, I just find it annoying that you're not going to trust your audience to remember what happened previously or pick up on context clues in the episode..Which makes The Expanse and Babylon 5 pretty great because they hardly, if ever, do that.. But yeah, totally up to him though if he wants to watch the intros or not..
