That Tomin guy can act!

Lady Beyond The Wall

Love this one. But I have a thing for Tomin anyway. He's a great actor (imo); very good at seeming genuinely conflicted, but also ruthless like he was in the beginning. And hey! Maybe Cam can cook fine, but Sam just doesn't like macaroons (not macarons, people get them mixed up)! Some people just don't like coconut. 😂 His looked like chocolate macaroons too, which.. yum. But I'm a fan of coconut. I used to buy whole ones to snack on, lol..never got the hang of getting them open with the water intact though. Also loved the very quiet "d'oh!" and the fishing password. Very sweet. 💕

Sam was amazing this episode.

Lady Beyond The Wall

She was! Amanda's acting was great too. She had a genuine look of terror when Cameron was treating her wound. Wasn't really a look like she was in pain for a bit there, but terror at the fact she knew it was a bad wound and it was very possible she'd die. Just wonderful acting with the eyes. Tomin's actor had some great subtle acting with his eyes as well.

You need to hammer a large nail through the "eyes" of the coconut. Drain the water and then you can smash away.

I feel like this episode flies under the radar for a lot of people, or maybe it's just that I personally really like it, but this probably makes the top 10% of SG1 eps for me. "Line in the sand" may refer to the passage from the Book of Origin, but it also refers to the resolve that they're not going to let the Ori have any more victories. They invaded our galaxy, and we fell back. They converted entire worlds, and we fell back. But not again, the line must be drawn ere. This far, and no further. And SG1's going to make them pay for what they've done. OK, cheeky Trek references aside, I like a lot about this episode. First off the acting. Amanda Tapping and Tim Guinee both stole the show this episode. I think a lot of people genuinely thought Carter might die in this episode when it first aired. There are so many times when SG1 doesn't really convey the seriousness of someone being shot, and just from the tone you can tell they're going to be fine. Amanda's acting really sold just how seriously she was injured, and starting to tell Cam about her letters made it clear SHE thought she was going to die. Slipping in and out of consciousness was a good touch too. Some of her best work on the show. I also love the way they used the situation to build her friendship with Cam, and show how much he cares about keeping this team together, especially after losing Daniel. Also like how they hint at her and Jack having a relationship off screen with her references to both fishing and The Simpson's. On that note, there was supposed to be a scene specifically dealing with Daniel's capture that got cut for time, which unfortunately made it seem nobody was concerned. Tomin's story is the first real crack we've seen in the ori ideological armor. Sure there were the dissidents back in their home galaxy, but Tomin was a crusader, one of their chosen warriors, as devout as they come. If he can start to question what they're doing, anyone can. That scene where he faces off with the prior gives me chills every time. This episode also raises some questions about origin. Tomin and the Prior clearly disagree on the meaning of the story, and Tomin said he'd been raised to see it the way he did, so it's clearly not an uncommon interpretation, but the priors take their marching orders from the ori, so which is the true meaning. Merlin said the Ori had good intentions when they started, and perhaps the book of origin reflects that, and has remained unchanged because changing the words would be sacrilege, so the ori kind of trapped themselves and had to twist the interpretation.
