This episode does really show how a low budget and minimal sets can still be a quality episode. So the whole thing Scorpy was trying to do here was to get John to be able to resist Scarrans, they have that heat power that can make you talk, so he's trying to toughen John up, it's actually a pretty good thing he's trying to do.

I'm glad they finally definitively addressed D'Argo's past and what happened with his wife. The way they're selling it in the first half of the episode, you actually start to wonder if maybe D'Argo could actually have lost control and killed his wife. It was ultimately a great experience for D'Argo though. He's bottled this stuff up for years, and not only did he get to confront his wife's killer, but proved to himself he was strong enough to control his own rage and at the same time made Mocton pay a price worse than death. He's still got a lot of things to work through, but at least his wife's death isn't this festering wound anymore. And while Scorpius' motives may still be suspect, there's some sense in trying to make sure John is prepared to resist the scarrans when the time comes. And to his credit, he did go out of his way to help John identify the creature. Even Rygel got some satisfaction by besting the charrid, so all the boys from the Moya crew got some resolution to personal issues. Best to deal with baggage before shit hits the fan.
