Even though I'm a latecomer to your patreon I just wanted to take this opportunity to thank you for your hard work and say it's been an absolute delight to get to see you discover these great shows... You have a great sense of humor and some good takes on episodes and themes that I never would have thought of myself. Always a pleasure to see your reactions and with that in mind... I'm gonna coffee up and enjoy this one. :)

"Gift basket from Anubis" 😂 The Asgard really slept on this one! I thought they'd be hanging around in stealth or something and step in to help once they realized it was a goa'uld plot. They didn't even check that asteroid out or they would have noticed the problem!

James Yancy

🎯... damn. 🐳👀

Lady Beyond The Wall

Good job realizing there were some Goa'uld shenanigans going on with the asteroid! I remember watching this one for the first time and not being suspicious until the naquadah reveal. Even the "mothership being in the asteroid" idea was a good guess. 🐋

Daryl

Whoa nobody accept a 🎁 🧺 from this man! 🤣 Your mothership disguise idea would have been fun to see play out. You can always trust in Jack to break the tension with a gag or two. 😆

"Carter, I can see my house!!" I just noticed after all the times I've seen this episode that the failsafe distance was 38 minutes before impact. That's gotta be intentional. Also when Hammond orders Walter offworld, he looks so disappointed. "Oh man. They're gonna have a DHD there, I won't get to say my thing anymore😢". Can you imagine him dialing a DHD one button at a time and doing the whole "chevron 5 encoded" thing? People would be like "dammit Walter, it takes 2 seconds to dial". Also funny choice of words calling that asteroid a gift basket. That's hundreds if not thousands of cubic kilometers of pure naquadah. Earth gotta get themselves a working cargo ship(maybe the tok'ra can help fix the one they have), and build a mining base on the asteroid. I think that 1 asteroid has more naquadah than has ever been seen or mentioned in the entire show. Probably more than all the milky way stargates combined. Also this is the payoff of the last episode. Remember when Osiris said Anubis would destroy Earth before rejoining the system lords? This is HEAVILY implied to be that promise at play. Surprised Anubis would throw away all that naquadah though. Just throw 4-5 regular asteroids at earth if youre worried about 1 being stopped. One thing I've always noticed is Daniel is just sort of hanging around this episode. I mean he does nothing beyond his little sarcastic quips(which is fine, just interesting). Pretty much his only contribution was suggesting the hyperdrive, which Sam had to figure out. Just an interesting note. Also I loved the little "I'm confident/me too/as am I" thing they had going throughout the episode. Good to see some tok'ra still out and about though. For once the asgard were the bigger dicks between the 2. Pretty good episode on balance. The goa'uld are really starting to test the limits of the protected planets treaty. The Asgard are gonna have to get involved at some point, or just admit they got their own problems and let their bluff get called.

Only thing is the mothership idea doesn't make much sense when you think about it. It would still be explicitly tied back to the goa'uld, and frankly an asteroid 1/10th that size is all you'd need to take out earth. The better idea would be to cloak the asteroid if Apophis ship cloaking tech is still around, and when it hits it'll just seem like Earth missed it's approach

Chris

Brilliant prank would be to not tell the Alpha site that Earth didn't blow up then casually drop in after a month and see who ended up hooking up, lol

Erin Ragsdale

I've seen this episode I don't know how many times.....Why am I just now finding the humor at how much this is like a MacGyver episode :P

Brent Justice

This is a great episode, thanks for the reaction. I think Osiris mentioned in the last episode that Anubis would take out Earth for them since he isn't part of the system lords, and wants entrance again, so I think this was him carrying that out to gain favor with the system lords. A nice loophole.

wow did he say amazon bought mgm owner of stargate and 007 bond wow now imagine amazon making a stargate game that is is open world game with campainge and multiplayer for all major consoles that would be sick too be a character and go too different worlds in the find things and get clues and dial gates I hope they make a stargate game I would buy that game in a heart beat ! lol

Paul Carroll

oh i almost forgot if failwhale and any of his fans want too try this stargate game its at https://stargate-network.fr/en/ its created by these 6 or 7 people you can download it at that website above and try it out its free there still working on it and adding new stuff and but i tried it and it is cool you can find gate addresses and go different planets nice.

Paul Carroll

the detail in it on the consoles in gate room and walking around the base is so real

Teth

In what way? Most the MacGyver episodes I remember were about either endangered animals or terrorists, not world-ending impact events 😆

Big "Ass"teroid Problem, hehe he

MrEvers

Damn you, I was gonna go to bed...

Geonn Cannon

Fun fact: when the show was first airing, Showtime screwed up the airdates and this was shown before Summit/Last Stand. So when they said, "Oh we can just use the ship Jacob and Daniel crashed on that planet," NO ONE HAD ACTUALLY SEEN THAT HAPPEN YET.

When the team went back to Revanna (?) to fix the Tel'tak, did they pass by a massive field of rotting Jaffa bodies by the gate? Do we know how much time has passed between this episode and the last? Do Jaffa go back to bury their dead? It didn't look like they bury them based on those flashbacks into Teal'c's past, but maybe they just hadn't gotten around to it at the time? I wasn't surprised at the cool response from the Asgard. If they were to acknowledge that the Goa'uld broke the treaty, they would have to formally declare war on them when they're barely holding the replicators back and have no available ships to fight that war. Their choices would be to either try to fight with what little is available, which probably would go badly, or somehow formally let it go which will let the Goa'uld know the Asgard aren't serious about keeping them to their word and they can do whatever they want with little fear of retribution. Sad as it is the Asgard did what they had to do. After watching this episode for the first time I thought they should find a way to mine that asteroid. So much naquadah in one place is a gift in a way, though the lack of an atmosphere and distance from earth or a stargate would make mining it a bit complicated. I saw someone else mention that in a comment here, nice to know I wasn't the only one to think about it.

I hope, you DO understand, that when you go through the Gate, just as with teleportation, you KINDA DIE. You are being DESTROYED, and then recreated. It's almost the same as creating a 100% identical clone on the other side and killing the original. However, many scientists believe that " I am" doesn't exist, and our personality as "I am" is just a product of super computer - brain. Yeah, you don't have a freedom of choice, you are just a machine :(
