LETS GOOOOO! SG34 FAM

Martin Nicholls

Martin Lloyd might be JJ Abrams. It's not clear.

Teth

Oof. I'm seriously considering going into work an hour late (flexible work time) just to watch this now. Must resist!

Been waiting for this one! XD

Brent Justice

Just like Buffy, this is an episode of SG-1 I've also been waiting for you to get to the whole season, cannot wait to see your reaction. Seems like I got a lot to do tonight :p

indaeo

I believe this was done to celebrate 100 episodes. It also means we're now up to 3 DeLuise's to guest star on the show! First father Dom (Urgo), and now sons Peter (directing the episode AND playing the director here) and Michael (playing the lead actor). I also love seeing the cameos from writer/producers Robert C. Cooper (show's writer) and Joseph Mallozzi (donut guy). (among other easter eggs) Great reaction, love this ep!

ANIMEMUSE

How many episodes do you react to per week. Cause I really can’t wait to see your reaction to episode 21

Brent Justice

I just watched your reaction, thank you. You are absolutely right that there are a lot of hidden gems in this episode, a lot of inside jokes, and things to notice in the background. A lot of cameos as well from the whole team that makes Stargate. The entire episode is a commentary on, well, itself as a show. It's something very unique that only a certain kind of show can do, and Stargate SG1 proves that it can totally pull this kind of thing off. Some things you might have missed. The reason for the jab at the 3 shot disintegrates thing is that it was learned that this was a pretty dumb idea they introduced from the beginning, and they regret having ever introduced the 3 shot disintegrates, so they make fun of it here in this episode. That's why we don't see them do it a lot, they realized it was a bad idea, heh. Also notice Jack and Marty are walking through a Goa'uld ship's hallway set when they are captured in the studio. Also there is a miniature death glider that is pushed on a cart behind Jack as he is walking outside on the phone. Little things like that you just have to look for all over, there are things hidden in the background. There's really a lot to unwrap in this episode. So much dialog is poking at all the decisions they make or have to make when producing an episode, it's incredibly inciteful and self-aware.

I think we all have been waiting for you to get to this one for months. This was the 100th episode of the show and they clearly had a lot of fun lampooning themselves. Extremely meta episode for sure. Alright so, references and cameos. First off the director for Wormhole X-Treme(the show within the show) was played by our good buddy Peter DeLuise, which is meta in and of itself since he directed Wormhole X-Treme(the actual SG1 ep). The lead actor was also played by his brother Michael. Robert C Cooper was the writer who suggested going back to the way it was in the script before Marty pitched "3 shots disintegrate". Martin Wood was one of the NID agents. Michael Greenburg and Brad Wright were the 2 execs at the end after the ship took off. Joseph Mallozzi was the guy asking about the donuts. Jan Newman(an actual makeup artist for SG1) was a makeup artist on set with the green woman. The props guy in yellow is Kenny Gibbs, the property master for SG1 from season 4 onward. The guy playing Grell is Chris Judge's actual stand in, and this is the first time I'm noticing that he doesn't say a single word the entire episode(wonder what his "indeed" would be?). And there were a few other writers and crew members that were worked in. Also when Jack is asking Martin where he got the idea, you can see an asgard puppet behind Martin and they seem to be wheeling a death glider model around on a cart. There are a few star trek references as well. The producer who was bragging about his cable award that said "make it go" was clearly a reference to Picard's "make it so". The whole discussion about not falling through the floor when out of phase is relevant to a lot of scifi, but is quite commonly asked in trek episodes like The Next Phase where it's an issue. Also the beaming effect for the alien ship is nearly identical to the effect on the original Star Trek. The show Marty and O'Neill talk about, Poochinsky, was a real pilot episode that was never picked up for a full series. Also while I like the idea of an alien watching wrestling and picking up the name, Steve Austin was actually a reference to The Six Million Dollar Man. There were also a few internal references. You picked up on the sexy female alien referring to Anise/Freya. O'Neill talking about a general having a cameo was in reference to general Ryan appearing on the show the previous season. Also colonel Denning has 2 scars through his eyebrow, apparently taking a shot at the scar they added to Jack's eyebrow back in season 2 or 3. But yeah, this is a real classic. I think some people find it a bit too much with all the 4th wall breaking, like Christian Bocher's "Daniel Jackson inception". I don't think it's as universally loved as Window of Opportunity by any stretch. Still, you gotta respect a show that can take the piss out of itself. Great reaction as always. EDIT - You gotta wonder though, all those people saw an alien ship swoop down, 3 guys disappeared, men in black rolled up, and it took off. I don't know much about the TV industry, but that can't be normal.

“This a bit of foreshadowing going on?” *Cries* …seriously, I never thought of that. Damn.

One of my favorite episodes that actually stands out in the series

Daryl

I was really looking forward to the comments on this one. A lot of what I would have said already mention, as I rightly expected. This is how you celebrate a traditional television syndication benchmark point! Make's you wonder what a show might do if they ever happened to get to 200.

Teth

Love this episode! It gets even better with rewatching as you pick up on more silly little easter eggs and references. Like "as a matter of fact it does say Colonel on my uniform." A completely random callback to a completely random line from Jack in season 1. Onwards to 200! And cheers, SG fam, it's an honour serving with you all!

Stef Furness

What a great way to start the weekend! Full tilt up

Paul Carroll

wow i did like this episode with the 2 wormhole xtreme guys in the wormhole jackets at end were the actual producer and director of stargate ? am I right

Paul Carroll

the failwhale might be double bubble time for a 2 episode watch since we made it too the about half way mark with episode 12 awsome!

Amy Appleyard

Love this ep! So many Easter eggs too!

brad hawkes

Haha not foreshadowing, Daniel got crushed by rocks and became dark Daniel after sarcophagus <3

Coojw

am i the only one that hates this episode? I watched it the first time I watched SG-1 like 15 years ago, and every time this episode comes up on a rewatch i skip it.

Sarahnade

A top tier episode! Some of my favorite eps are when they're self aware and play around with their own tropes. It makes it seem like a really fun show to work on.

Neil Todd

Anyone else notice how sunburned General Hammond was in the scene with the Doctor in his office? Looked like he had been to the beach recently and got baked! lol

Thomas Thorburn

The 100th of stargate most shows take it seriously stargate does the opposite I love it. 👍

RIP Willie Garson

I love this episode. I only sort of liked it at first, but after rewatching the show I was able to notice a lot more of the details they worked into it which made it a lot more funny. There was just one thing that always bothered me about this episode, as well as the first episode they encountered Martin Lloyd, and it was that the NID wasn't called in from the start. The air force has no authority to operate on a movie set or surveille a civilian, but surely the NID could do it legally. SG-1 are supposed to be the good guys, there's no reason to make them commit unnecessary crimes.

Sarah

It was amusing on the first watch, but tbh, to me, it's just far too cringe for a rewatch, I do hope Failwhale liked it though
