Holy crap that thing gave me a fright! 😂 I'm lucky if I didn't wake up my neighbours. I really enjoyed this episode as well. Great chemistry between the cast and that bartender put in some pretty impressive stunt moves. I can't believe I never picked up on the similarities with Torchwood before! You have to wonder if they weren't a little bit inspired by Angel. I agree that there's an X-Files element here as well, that show was a big influence in the scifi/horror genre in the 90s/00s

An Ok episode starts off slow, then the second half really picks up and is great. You can definitely tell this is the gang's first season, it's all a slow build.

The first time I watched Torchwood, I thought "Oh dang! They're really mimicking the style of Angel!" Torchwood takes inspiration from the style of Angel and Angel takes inspiration from the style of X-Files. And X-Files takes inspiration from the style of Twin Peaks. The more you watch, the more you'll see the patterns in TV!

Yeah the first time I saw Torchwood, I also thought of Angel lol. This is sort of a middle-of-the-road episode for me, though it's one of them I always remember, specifically for the little twists and that bit with the grapple hook. I like that all he wants to do is sit alone in the dark and his friends know him well enough to not make him go bar-hopping with them. I love the theme song! Much different than BtVS, I know, but oh-so-dramatic. I'm glad you seem like you're enjoying the show. :)

You know, I saw this show when I was in my teens, but only looking back now am I appreciating that David Boreanaz actually has some serious acting chops. I mean it takes real effort to sell being THAT awkward. Very creepy episode, and not one of the better ones of the series, but it serves it's purpose in starting to build a list of connections around Angel. Buffy had built up a whole list of contacts/allies/informants over 3 seasons, but Angel has to start fresh now(well almost, he does have Cordelia). Also the actor who plays the bartender, Obi Ndefo, was a fairly prolific TV actor back in the late 90s and 2000s. He actually shows up on SG1 a few eps down the road. Tragically he lost both his legs in a hit and run incident over a year ago, but to his credit he carried right on with his life after he recovered. That he was able to handle that kind of a loss with that much strength and dignity says a lot about his character.

That is tragic! I had no idea. Very talented guy, too. I always enjoyed his appearances on SG-1
