For the horror film, I'd say go for The Ritual. It's a good atmospheric film with an amazing soundtrack. For the animated film, maybe Promare? It came out fairly recently and it's just an all 'round enjoyable thing to watch (also has an amazing soundtrack). And maybe this is cheating a bit but my favourite movie is The Iron Giant, an old animated film from 1999.

Oh, MAN. This was really, really hard - probably harder than it should have been. Alright, let's get started. Horror/Thriller: Evil Dead 2. Yes, 2 - you can skip the first entirely, and for a reactor, it's probably for the best. This is a great starter horror for anyone - it's scary, it's unbelievably funny, and Bruce Campbell plays one of the best leading men in 80's horror. Oscar-Bait! The category: Parasite It should go without saying, as this film swept the Oscars up in a frenzy last year, but this film is seriously amazing. Anime/Animated: Akira This category was also tricky, as there are a TON of really, really fantastic animated movies out there, from all over the globe. But I thought it would be best to start with one of the more seminal ones - a 1988 film that shook the animation industry by storm and whose tremors are still felt in various media to this day. It's a stunningly detailed, visual delight with a story that'll hold you spellbound and a cast of believably real characters. Personal Favorite: Little Shop of Horrors You have NO idea how many times I went back and changed this before finally settling. I know it says horror in the title, but this ditty little musical from Frank Oz is partly funny, has a great cast, a fantastic soundtrack, and an incredible display of puppetship. Make sure to watch the "Director's Cut", as it has a ten minute longer ending and is considered among most to be the better of the two endings. (Runner Ups included Blazing Saddles, Alita, and Big Trouble in Little China.)

The Kernowyon Penguin

1) I don’t do horror so have got nothing XD 2) it’s not an Oscar nominee but it won the best British film in 2017 for our National Film Awards, so I guess for Britain that’s as close as I’ll get for a recommendation here XD: A Street cat named Bob. Honestly it’s criminally under rated internationally, though as it’s British I do get why. 3) The Aristocats and don’t @me XD 4) Rogue One, though idk you might’ve seen it already as it’s Star Wars.
