What'd you think of this one?!

Timothy Nikiforovs

It was an interesting way to show what MIGHT happen without being tied down with the consequences of that. Great foreshadowing for the end of the season.

It’s my all time favorite stargate episode! I was so little when I first watched it many years ago and it’s still my favorite! It’s also the first episode I ever watched of stargate.

Daryl

Such a great episode. Definitely one of the best not only of this season but over all.

DUDE! The timing was great lol, you watched the movie at the perfect time to understand this episode. This ep is in my list of Top 10 SG-1 episodes. There are some really great ones coming in the future.

Great episode

There is a bit of a false dilemma in this episode. The decision near the end to either get Jackson back to the mirror, send a bomb, or evacuate isn't really mutually exclusive. As soon as they can dial they can go to literally any safe world and take everyone through with a bomb. From there they can send the bomb, go to the beta site, and Jackson can get back home. That nitpick aside, fantastic episode.

I'm glad you watched the movie before this one, the understanding of who Catherine is and how she relates to Jackson makes this episode more impactful when you've seen the movie. This is a neat episode, it shows what might have happened if Daniels never joined up. But there are still other differences in the universe as well, slight ones like what rank people are, the fact that Sam isn't in the military, so there's stuff that Daniel never could have influenced that were different anyway. I think one of the appeal for fans were the shippers between jack and sam, this is their "what if" moment between them, that in another universe they are together. Plus, as you said, it ties into the two parter finale very well, almost like it was made to fit ;) So really you can think of the finale of Season 1 as a three part story, which is pretty epic.

I've always thought that too, they could have just gone to the Beta site and and do everything from there, Daniels would still get to the other planet, they could still send a bomb to the coordinates. But the way I see it is that it would take more episode time and budget to do that, I feel this episode is a bit of a buget saver saving up for all the special effects in the finale episode.

This episode is also in my top ten. I got in to watching stargate sg-1 while it was still airing, so this was the first time ever I was introduced to an alternate reality episode. The whole concept was mind boggling to me and I enjoyed the idea immensely. The differences between the characters were awesome. So was Daniel's reaction to everything! When they finally came to the conclusion that this was an alternate reality Daniel becoming hysterical when he was saying it out loud made me laugh so hard! This was when the series really started to kick off at full speed. Funny thing is, it never stopped. People still want more stargate. I can't wait for you to get into season 2. That was probably my favorite season. I don't think there was one bad episode in it. Can't wait for more stargate reactions!!!

Up until this episode, we’ve had some...iffy ones. We’ve had good ones, great ones, even exceptional ones. This is the first *truly exceptional* episode of the series. And don’t worry man, it’s far from the last. Interesting thing to point out, though. It came to my attention the last time I watched this, showing the series to my ex girlfriend, that the part of Daniel arguing with Jack near the end to let him go to 933 instead of dialing the Beta Site (so glad our universe goes with Alpha Site instead) is completely pointless. They should have dialed the gate as planned, gone to the Beta Site, saved lives, continued the human race, etc. etc......and Daniel could’ve gone anywhere he wanted from there. All he’d had to do is dial up the DHD. They wouldn’t even have to keep him there under the usual “you know too much about us and our defenses, what if you’re captured?” thing because...new planet, nothing there yet. The only reason I can really come up with as to why they didn’t, is that planet to planet Gate travel hasn’t really happened yet. They go SGC to planet, back to SGC, occasionally to different planet. They always come home before going somewhere else in season one, never one place to another directly. So maybe the idea didn’t occur somehow. Or it’s possible their Sam just isn’t as smart as ours. 😄

“I know you’re busy, but Daniel you should be really taking some footage to show the people back home.” HOLY HELL, no kidding!!! Why did I never think of that?! He must have known it would be hard for even the SGC to believe, and it sure as hell would have saved them a ton of trouble in the next episode and finale with Kinsey....my god!
