It's great timing that you edited and posted 1x12 the same week as watching this episode and noticed some similarities in their strengths So far the Joss Whedon written and directed episodes are 1x12, 2x1, and this 2x7. It's worth getting excited when those episodes come along. A lot of people will mention this, and credit goes to Ian at Passion of the Nerd, (He does fantastic Buffy episode guides, that aren't quite spoiler-free enough for you to watch) but that whole thing Buffy says about choice, "You have a choice, you don't have a good choice, but you have a choice." Is a sort of a mission statement for the show. Life gets complicated, things aren't black and white but as long as you keep making choices and don't let the universe act upon you, as though you don't have a choice, then you are truly living. But yeah a lot of people acknowledge this as one of the really strong episodes, but might sight Halloween as more of a favorite, because it's more enjoyable to watch. But really great reaction and insights, some of the scenes hit differently for me watching your reaction. 😊 Also, there was talk a few years ago about a Buffy, not reboot but sequel with a new slayer facing todays issues, headed not by Joss but by Monica Owusu-Breen, with Joss's blessing, and would feature a black slayer. However, this was right before Disney acquired the rights to Buffy, since then there hasn't been any news about the sequel or anything else Disney might do with Buffy. Though I heard rumors that if Disney makes Disney+ less family friendly and puts up other content they might release Buffy that way. Maybe even remaster it properly.... Sorry that was a long one.

I don't want a Buffy reboot/sequel at all, but I'd love a Slayer anthology series. I really want to see the different Slayers across time/countries. Maybe a different big event in that particular Slayer's life and how they overcame it.

This is one of the best of this season, as usual when it’s a written and directed by Joss episode. You are right about the direction, Joss is getting better and better. In my mind the previous episode, this one and the next constitute a mini arc within this season, a thematic trilogy. I don’t know if I am the only one bothered by this, but you are the king of interrupted narrative and emotional flow. The way you interrupt scenes abruptly sometimes mid sentences is so jarring, I’m afraid it diminishes the experience for you.

This episode has grown on me after watching the whole series. Its def one of the episodes along with Prophecy Girl that reflects the themes of the show more clearly than some. As someone pointed out there is a buffy remake in the works. Initially I was against it but i've come around on the idea to some extent. Its hard to talk about how they'd approach a reboot of show here because of spoilers for how the show ends.

I really loved what felt like a longer breakdown at the end of the episode. I also really enjoy Giles lie to me speech at the end, it always makes me cry.

Love this episode - it all just brings back so much nostalgia for me. I used to have such a crush on Buffy (back when I was straight anyway) Like a few other people have said, that last scene made my heart melt
