Greetings Patrons!

Chronicles of Eberron is out in the wild and I'm on my way home from PAX Unplugged, so it's time for questions. As always, I will not be able to answer every question. So simple questions are the best questions. If I can answer a question in five minutes here, I'll probably answer it. If it would take significant research or an hour of work to answer a question, I probably can't. Feel free to ask questions that didn't get answered in a previous month—there are always some good ones I can't get to!—just know that I won't be able to get to them all. In addition, I will only answer one question per patron. You can ASK more than one, because one may be easier for me to answer than another, but I'll only answer one.

Thank you for your support!

Where would you put the Ioun stones? Phonetically it could be linked to aundair, the Aun sounding like ioun so that might be a link?

Hey Keith, two questions: First, how are genasi treated in Riedra? I would imagine wild zones would produce some powerful 'touched, but are they well regarded in their homelands, seen as dangerous, thought to be the perfect edgewalkers? Second, how might you handle moving from a high level Eberron campaign to a new low level game in the future of the first, with those high level PCs still hanging around as NPCs blowing out the standard curve of NPCs in Eberron?

Looking to the second question, in part I think the usual reluctance to have powerful NPCs is somewhat mitigated when those powerful NPCs are the former characters of the players; it's not like the DM just bringing in a Mary Sue to solve problems. The first thing I'd do is to concretely establish why the former PCs are no longer PCs—ideally emphasizing why this prevents them from just being adventurers. This could be about responsibility; in one campaign I was in where we did this, one of the former adventurers because the Queen of Karrnath; she couldn't just take off as a whim to adventure. I could see a PC being the head of the Dark Lanterns or the Serpentine Table. Another option would be an important task that binds them to a location: they've become Keeper of the Flame, they're guarding a daelkyr seal, they have a family that's more important to them than anything else. A third option is to have their current status be left as a mystery: they were last seen going to Argonnessen, venturing into the Realm Below in the Mror Holds, or traveling to Syrania, and no one KNOWS where they are now. Part of what can be fun in any of these situations is to let the players play their former PCs in limited amounts. If a PC shows up to mentor the new kids, have the former player run them. Or, if a PC is now running the Dark Lanterns or ruling Karrnath, occasionally present them with challenges during downtime... "What does Queen Kiara do about the uprising in Atur?"
