Life continues to be challenging. As a result, I am still working on the Mockery article chosen in October. While that will be posted soon, in the meantime, I want to give you all a chance to ask new short questions. In other developments, I'll be at PAX Unplugged next month and participating in a few events, as called out in this article

For those who are new to the IFAQ process, here's how it works. first of all, I answer as many questions as I can, but with the number of questions I receive I often don't have time to answer all. Beyond that...

  • Given the volume of questions I receive, I limit myself to answering one question per patron per month, to try to spread my time out as evenly as possible. You can ASK multiple questions, because it may be one is easier for me to answer than another—but if you ask seven questions, I'm only going to answer one of them.
  • If I can answer a question in 2-3 sentences, I will answer it here (as a reply to your comment). If I can answer a question in 2-3 paragraphs, it may be answered as an IFAQ article, but I only have time to post 1-3 IFAQs per month. If it would take 2-3 pages to answer the question, that's a Dragonshard article—and I'm already behind in my article queue. So in short, the longer and more complicated the question, the lower the chance that I'll have time to answer it.
  • If I would have to do significant research to answer a question, that increases its effective size. It may be that the question only takes a few sentences to answer—but if I'd have to do two hours of research and contemplation to answer it, it's going to get passed over.

If you asked a question didn't get answered in a previous month, you're always welcome to ask it again, though consider how these guidelines apply! There's always good questions I just don't have time to answer.

As always, thanks for your support!

Not Mordakhesh

My second question that I'm in no massive rush for an answer to, what might the Inspired be up to in Q'barra? It seems that if the DD wanted to sucker in more people to serving their cause, they'd invent something more Khorvaire specific that would resonate with the Cyran refugees etc, not export the path of Inspiration. So if it isn't converts they're trying to win over, what is the Dreaming Dark's interest in Q'barra?

Food, military support. Perhaps they want to build a monument and spread the dream, perhaps they're softening this frontier for invasion under Lord Zoratesh's mad dream to bring war to Khorvaire after pacifying Syrkarn, Adar and Tashana? Perhaps they want to use the "on the back foot" rebel secessionists of New Galifar to stoke a series of wars within Khorvaire within which their own agents can overthrow and remake Khorvaire as ancient Sarlona once was

The question is already answered in the 3.5 ECS. "The Inspired see Q’barra as a strong foothold on the shores of Khorvaire. Their diplomatic relations with the court of Newthrone have provided them with a source of Eberron dragonshards and a base for troops in the region. Agents of the Devourer of Dreams may engineer (through dreams and omens) another conflict with the lizardfolk, the Lhazaar pirates, or the Valenar raiders to encourage King ir’Kesslan to request more Riedran troops."

So first, as Matthew calls out, Lord Zoratesh is interested in the military options. Getting a strong foothold in Q'barra is a RESOURCE. Remember that the Inspired work VERY slowly. They aren't planning an invasion tomorrow; as noted in the preceding quote, they might engineer a war just to get Kesslan to draw on more Riedran troops. It's a LONG GAME. Even if their main plan for Khorvaire is to, say, take over one of the Dragonmarked Houses and make them the Inspired of Khorvaire, it wouldn't HURT to have a strong force of Riedran troops who have been WELCOMED into Khorvaire.

I'd love to hear more about how the different schools work, but especially the Five Demesnes. Do they only go 4 years? Do longer lived races like Elves go when they are physically and mentally "adults" around the same time as humans or when they become Elven adults at 100 or so? What kind of proof of graduation is there? I assume they don't carry around diplomas, so are there class ring-like objects? Those are the more specific questions, but expanding more in general on Arcanix, Morgrave, the Korranberg library colleges, the Demesnes, etc. would be fascinating.
