WOOO PATREON WOOO YEEEEEAAAHH WOOHOO OH YEAH BABY WOOOOO THIS IS SO CRAZY WHOAAAAAAAAAAA THIS IS GOING TO BE SO EPIC I JUST WANNA SCREAM WOOO

That was the teaser text for non-patrons. Now that they're gone, we can talk. We can get serious.

I suppose you just started supporting me at the start of my patreon, since this is my first post. Thank you! Well, I guess I'll let you in on what I've been working on since I finished The Upturned (which still feels like yesterday.)

The new game's working title is currently Lethal Company. I think that's catchy. (Maybe too catchy--is that name similar to something else? I don't know, but let's not grow too attached to it.)

I'm going to keep one of the core pillars of the game a secret even for you, since it's going to be a big reveal in the announcement trailer. That still leaves me a lot to talk about; I think I've chosen hard mode this time around in about every way, from coding to design to art direction. I've got my work cut out for me. I better keep my head down and focus on one thing at a time!

This week, I've been focusing on art direction. I've also been considering Lethal Company's entire setting.

If you know me, you may know I love exploring big, mysterious, industrial places in games. That love might have been sparked by the Myst games and their numerous mazes of steel catwalks and heavy contraptions, all fulfilling some unknown purpose. Five of my past games have featured a laboratory or factory in them; well, this game's factory is about to put those to shame. I'm really getting it out of my system this time.

Here is some art reference I've gathered--a "mood board", some like to call it. I found this all on a google search.

Since this game will be more grounded and horrific, I figure I have to get this part right. So I've taken a lot of care in achieving a correct sense of scale and proportion, basing it all off the player model which is about 5'6. (I even created a cute little in-game measuring stick.)

That should give you a good idea of the direction I'm going in with Lethal Company. Next week I'll show off more of my progress, like actual assets I've made for the game. If you have feedback on how I can make these posts a better experience, I have open ears. I may even switch to a video format in the future. I'm starting small here.
