Hi all! First things first I want to apologize for the lateness of this week’s (really last week’s) SotS. After uploading the Konami video to YouTube on Friday, Derek and I decided to take the day off and SotS got lost in the shuffle. But, without further ado...

Monday

Konami Brawlers was finally ready for Patreon! So happy to get it up and (mostly, as it would turn out) finished. Derek took the day off since he edited through the weekend. I worked on miscellaneous stuff, touching up the books and the like. After learning from a few Patrons that Sunset Riders HAD IN FACT been rereleased in 2020, I rushed to my Switch and bought it! Don’t know how we missed that. There were a couple of other mistakes in the video so I rewrote a few lines and made a checklist of what needed to be changed.

Tuesday

Today was a relatively quiet day. We got our final shelf for the new set, so Derek set that up and started brainstorming game placement. It involved a lot of math! I experimented with the camera for the new set. The new shelving unit takes up one-and-a-half walls, so I think I’ll be moving Derek into the corner at an angle versus having him shot flat on the wall. It looks a bit more dynamic in my opinion. I didn’t do anything special with the lighting (kept our overhead lights in the same position and used the ring light), but I immediately preferred the lighting for the angled position. It looks less flat to my eye. We’re taking our time with the new set and I’m excited to get everything put together and finalized.

Wednesday

The YouTube upload date for the Konami Brawlers vid was set for Friday, so we decided to take a break from that video and focus on a content plan for the rest of the year. 2022 has been slow so far, but I think we have set up a workable plan that will get us back on track. The next three videos are going to be a Delisted on Crash Bandicoot mobile kart racers, the Zeebo Punching Weight, and a Past Mortem on the Ouya. There’s also going to be a little something special for the HVGN anniversary in August! After all that was settled, I worked on the thumbnail for Konami Brawlers and Derek familiarized himself with the various kart racers.

Thursday

The day before the video! Derek re-recorded audio, fixed some footage crediting errors, and finalized the edit. I finished the thumbnail and worked on the Crash script. Which I am deciding to code name the Bandikart script. While a version of this script was written waaaaay back in November 2021, we ended up shelving it for various reasons. One of the reasons was that Derek felt there should be a bigger spotlight on Crash Bandicoot Nitro Kart 3D for iOS (say that five times fast). Despite being a relatively standard racer at first glance, it was a monster seller at the time. It was even the #1 paid app in the iOS app store when the store hit a billion overall downloads in 2009. Mario Kart DS and Mario Kart Wii happened to be two of the top selling console games of that year, so our working theory is that the people were HUNGRY for casual racers.

Friday + Saturday

We finally uploaded Konami Brawlers to YouTube today! And then promptly crashed.

Sunday

Today Derek and I sat down to work on the Bandikart script. While both of us technically were crashed and not working on Friday and Saturday, we both took sneaky passes at the script. And made a few errors.... That’s why you should let your breaks be breaks! This writing session’s focus was finalizing the review for CBNK3D iOS, and reshaping the script to feature that game first. Then each of us copy-edited to fix some errors accidentally introduced into the script. The wonky thing about these bandikart games is that they all have nearly the same name, so it is very easy to get them all mixed up. I’m confident we’ll have it all buttoned up next week! The plan is to film and send everything off to an editor by Friday.

Thanks for reading and for your support! See you guys next week!
