Ok, this is gonna be a bit of a strange one.

I'm testing out a new patreon/subscribestar thing, but it's a bit complicated. Basically, once a month I wanna do a custom community render that goes to all supporters, but what's in it is down to a vote.

The format will basically be this. Two polls. One for the involved character, and that poll will always include every named female character in the game. The other poll will be for what kind of content is in the render, and will be between 3 topics. Think like "BDSM, Lesbian, Masturbation" except these 3 will get changed every month so people don't just pick from the same stuff each month.

I plan to release these polls at the start of each month, and leave them up for 1 week, then I do whatever render I need to do based on the results, and it gets released to all supporters. Here's where it gets complicated though...

The winning option on each character poll gets their votes reset, but every other character carries their votes over. This is to avoid just the most popular character winning every single month. However, this functionality isn't supported by either patreon or substar, so I'm gonna have to just put the polls up and try to be transparent about all the calculations I'm keeping track of in the background. Additionally, votes are weighted based on your support tier, though I haven't decided exactly to what extent just yet. Basically, the higher your tier, the more your vote counts. Patreon/Substar doesn't support this either (Substar actually does, but ignore that), and because I can't have the polls take that into account, the only way I can do it is to release different versions of the polls for each tier.

Here's why I'm posting about this. It all sounds like quite a lot of work, right? I don't want to commit to doing this every month if it turns out to be really tedious and takes too much time away from development. So I want this month to be sort of a test to see if it's something I can do going forward or not, and also how many people actually respond to the polls. So shortly following this post, every paid supporter should be getting an email notification with some polls. I'm gonna do it as I describe above this month and then decide later in the month whether or not it was a good idea. So at very least, everyone will get some goofy custom render, it's just everyone gets the same one.

(Also, Magistrates and above, this doesn't replace your custom renders. This is an additional thing.)

It is correct that many other dev's have weighted polls. There are usually only two category's. One vote for below a certain tier and two for above a certain tier. If there are more categories, then the higher tiers annihilate the lower tiers too easily. This is also much easier to keep track of. I also agree that having an announcement of who won the previous month should be enough for everyone. If you have to keep track anyway just eliminate any votes for the previous winner (and announce that this will happen).

I think I have a new way to do it for next time though. Turns out you can export the results in a csv, and it includes telling me who voted for each option. I can use excel to work out how much weight each person's vote should have, and go from there. It would mean just 2 polls each month (Character and content) and should be pretty chill. This was also a test to see if enough people bothered to vote for there even to be a point, and so far it looks like there is.
