This episode just doesn't make sense to me. Or rather, Gene's plan doesn't make any sense. It's pretty well established in the episode that a continuous power source is required to hold things out of time. So at SOME point in the future, even if the demons hadn't shown up, there would be a power outage, or he'd stop paying his electric bill because he was frozen in time, and the machine would shut off when the power company cut his power. Or he wouldn't show up to the lab and they'd go to his place to check on him (which is disturbing for SO many reasons). Or he'd stop paying rent and get evicted, and that would be a pretty awkward discover for the landlord, too. Like, I just don't see how he actually believed he would be able to freeze himself and his girlfriend there for EVER. (Though also, how did Gene not notice that the equation on the whiteboard had COMPLETELY changed?)

THIS! Exactly this. Even the expansion of the bubble is essentially a time paradox, because the field was about to cut off the device from its power source, which should mean it wouldn't continue to work. But like - and I get him not having clear or rational thinking going on - what was his long term expectation? Like you said, SOMEONE would have walked in at some point to find them frozen like that? Someone would have found the device and unplugged it. And kind of going into the weeds a little with the concept - if you were actually carving out an infinitesimal moment of time, and not just *freeze* time, as he makes the distinction - shouldn't that mean, for example, the mercury would actually slip all the way through the field, but would leave behind a suspended iteration of that drop or molecule or whatever from the moment of capture? It undermines the premise they wanted to go with over someone accidentally risking everyone and everything being frozen in time, but you know, they made the distinction that that wasn't what he was trying to do.
