Hello All!

I didn't want this episode to end!!! These are the types of episodes I live for. Comedy, drama, action & emotion - bloody brilliant! The way Sarah & Eliza played this was perfect! The mannerisms, the lines, they sold it & I bought it 100%. I enjoyed so much that I would have liked them not to 'solve' the issue so darn quickly!

Look forward to reading your comments as always, have a lovely week everyone! Thank you for the constant love & support!

Much love

Dakara x

What a great two-parter. Both SMG and ED absolutely nailed their portrayals. Freaky Friday episodes are great if done well. Yes. I also got a strong vibe from Willow & Tara. As she said, I too really like that she has this relationship outside of the Scoobies. I'm looking forward to seeing how this plays out over the rest of the season. :)

So, Dakara is annoyed and upset by the fact that Willow didn't notice anything wrong in Buffy, understandable, but let's have a little bit of fun trying to understand why it happened. Clearly they had two big goals in this episode: give an entrance for Tara in the scoobies in a big way and showing off the talent of their cast, something, I'm sure, both Sarah Michelle Gellar and Eliza Dushku really enjoyed too. Now, to achieve both of these goals in the space of a single episode, the only way was to make all the characters playing dumb in the face of the clearly unnatural Buffy's behaviour. This, clearly, can be annoying for the viewer, as it always is when well established characters behave out of character for no specific reason. While seeing a well established character like Willow acting blind in this way can be annoying, what I personally find upsetting is what happens in the case of the less established characters, like Riley. He's relativity new, we, as viewers, are still trying to know him and we can't foreseen how he is supposed to react in different situations. So, in this case, is he unable to notice anything weird in Buffy because he's acting dumb like the others or is he unable to look beyond her physical appearance? Or maybe he doesn't know Buffy as well as he would like yet, so he actually thinks that this new behaviour is another aspect of her personality. I can't say, I really don't know. Furthermore, if he's just playing dumb for this episode, how he would act in similar circumstances but in a different episode? Again, I have no idea. With the writers' decision to tweak our main characters so to reach their goals we have wasted a great opportunity to learn more about Riley as a character. And this is upsetting to me. Could they have avoided this issue? Honestly, I don't think so, at least not without dedicating more time to this story, another one or two episodes. Sadly the time was not on their favour here. There are just six more episodes left in the season, counting also the finale, and still a lot of topics to cover. About Faith, I agree with Dakara that they seem to go around it and never trying to arrive to a solution. The reason, I think, is that the writers found themselves kinda stuck. They clearly understood that they had a great character in Faith, loved by the audience and Eliza Dushku in the role is simply amazing, so it's easy to understand that they didn't want to drop her after season 3 but, at the same time, they didn't want her in the series either. If they bring her back for good, inevitably, Buffy and Faith will be end up to become closer and closer, story wise, they are the only two slayer in existence, they share the same destiny, powers, battles and even dreams, literately, and this will end up to sideline the other characters, like what happened in “bad girls” in season 3, breaking the group established dynamics and so damaging the show. If instead they try to put Faith aside after bringing her back, giving her basically nothing to do, they will ruin the character, pissing off the viewers and so, again, damaging the show. So, what they are doing here is basically kicking the can down the road, keeping Faith “in the loop” and Eliza interested in the character while avoiding any commitment. They bring her back for a couple of episodes now and then, here and there, before parking her somewhere like they did when they put her in a coma, hoping that, at a certain point, they will find a way to bring her back for good without screwing up everything. Tara and Willow. Really Dak ?! I didn't say anything before because I was curious to see how you would have interpreted their relationship thought the details and the little hints sprinkled in the previous episodes, but are you still unsure after this one? If the “you are mine, I'm yours” wasn't enough, later on Faith/Buffy made it blatantly clear with a couple of direct double entendres: “Willow's not driving stick any more” and “you give her whatever she needs”. What else do you want, the release of a sex tape? Clearly, as you correctly pointed out, given the time period they were quite constrained about what to show or not to show, but, for what regarded the story, they felt quite free to go in any direction, if they were smart with the writing. Anyway, honestly, all Willow's “sex scenes” have been always quite “soft”, I don't know if by accident or design, compared to Buffy's “sex scenes” that were more explicit … remaining always PG of course. A last thing I noticed, and maybe here is just me reading to much between the lines so take it for what it is, there are communication problems between Buffy and Riley, while Tara and Willow seem to be written as contrast medium to help spotting a light on such problems, and, because clearly communication is a big topic in this season, I though it could be. In “Hush” Riley failed to understand Buffy's hint to break the box, while, even if they barely know each other, Tara and Willow immediately managed to work in sync. Buffy is still reluctant to tell everything about her past to Riley, maybe because she doesn't think he can understand or maybe because she is not ready to share, I don't know. In contrast, Willow told everything to Tara about her, Oz, the slayer, Buffy and the scoobies. Riley said “I love you” to Buffy for the first time, sadly he told it at the wrong person and, at the end of the episode, he still hasn't said it to Buffy. In this same episode Tara understood what Willow meant with “I just like having something that's just mine” and answered her without hesitation “I'm yours”. So, could it be a thing? Maybe, maybe not, don't know.
