I totally felt a similar way when starting this arc. To a degree, each arc has felt like a different show, moreso than any other show I'd watched, but this was something else entirely. How far is this going to escalate? How dark will this get? I had no clue, it felt like a new world where I didn't understand the boundaries. And also like you, I was confused about what the emotional core of the arc would be, because this is the first time we're dealing with scary animals rather than evil humans. What's going to be the heart of the arc? I'm beyond excited for y'all to see. Also, I would just like raise a simple question: how different are hunters from animals, really? Especially when considering the really crazy ones like Hisoka, Ging, and even Gon at times. I'm not saying this excuses bad things they do, but I think it better explains the way they chase their instincts and follow their own personal code over the rest of society's.
