I want you to watch One Piece because we will do our best together for many years!

Stop spaming this, is never going to happen

Since I meant to comment this before, I’ll say this now. Paul/Pruitt saying that Joe was “beyond saving” is particularly twisted. Joe came to ‘Father Paul’ that night so that he would stay sober. Joe was trying to be better, and that’s not someone beyond saving. But Pruitt is convinced. He doesn’t feel guilt so it must have been a good act, an act driven by God. Because the alternative? That he murdered and ate Joe just because he was hungry, is undoubtedly monstrous. So he can’t acknowledge the truth of it. He didn’t kill Joe, God acted through him and called Joe home through Pruitt as his vessel. So it has to be good, because this was God’s will and God is good. And Pruitt’s story about the mouse says so much about him and the way he thinks about his beliefs. It doesn’t matter that the facts say something else entirely. It doesn’t matter that Pruitt killed a mouse and caught another to use to lie to Riley: the fact that this lie sustained Riley’s belief confirmed to Pruitt that it was a Godly act. And he’s been lying to everyone since he got back.

Tbh, I think they'd be better off watching it on their own, if they watch it at all. One Piece is one of my favorite mangas of all time, but even I'm aware that the episode count is too high for most reaction channels. Even IF the anime hadn't done the series such a disservice by adapting the story at a snails pace... it would still have too many episodes for a channel that doesn't drop everything else for that one show.

A few commenters were talking about the show being a little heavy handed with it’s monologues and character discussions but I don’t think that’s objectively bad. I think most Joss Whedon and Aaron Sorkin and even other Mike Flanagan shows have these kinds of scenes of characters discussing the themes of the story itself and their feelings about the world I do see why some people would be a little put off by it (I think overall I do prefer shows like The Wire/Fleabag/Succession that don’t really have those kinds of scenes as much) but I think this kind of dialogue can be really great if it’s executed well. It’s reminiscent of theatre, two characters in a room talking about their place in the universe and debating their choices with thoughtful poetic words Edit: Love Milena tying Vinland Saga into the discussion about the importance of guilt and responsibility

Can’t agree more! The mouse story and the detail of his sister dying to polio leading him to bury himself in religion really give so much to the audience. Bev is another liar except she’s just blatantly malicious It fits so perfectly that a character like Riley is the heart of the story, someone who’s fought so hard to accept the truth of his actions and not lie to himself

As someone who adores One Piece totally agree that it’s never gonna happen and shouldn’t lol. I think we should be glad we’ve been able to get Mob Psycho and Fullmetal Alchemist from them to scratch that itch. Hoping they can watch Haikyuu, that seems more up their alley and I know they’d wanna adopt all the sweet children

Monologues have the potential to be unbearable, not here tho, the writing is very well done and the acting brings it to another level, specially father Paul, he can really immerse you in the scene whenever he starts speaking

For real, if there’s an actor who can convince me that he’s a priest and that I should do evil things it’s him

Aj

That's exactly the problem I have with that. It's just so ham-fisted that I can't take it seriously, and it's exactly why I dislike Sorkin and Flanagan shows.
