Pain :<

lol, i was going to watch right now with them and now i know this is going to be painful... thanks, now i know i should prepare the tissues 😢

sand_fl

yes, exactly what i was expecting. knew she wouldn't live long but damn, she deserved better. it's awful because you can't exactly be mad at elliot for framing vera because he wanted him punished for raping her but at the same time that's what ended up causing her death. so fucking tragic. darlene really looked worried for elliot and some times even on the verge of tears, i think she and elliot had to be really really close or at least that's the impression i get from her attitude towards elliot.

Isaac

It feels like such an impossible situation. Literally the only surefire way to protect her would be to have her run. But how do you convince someone to do that?? I feel terrible for Shayla

tom

The show never passes up the opportunity to showcase that these characters are flawed humans and they very often make the wrong decision -- and the cruel part is it will get the audience to be so convinced that it was the right decision before being blindsided. When Elliot busts Vera we're like "Thank god, that was the right call". When Mr Robot says to not break Vera out and that he can't save Shayla's life we're like "Screw you, you're just cold and cruel". But in the end we're fools just like Elliot. I find that tragedies in stories often involve this focus on causality. It's not just about how miserable an outcome is but rather how it's connected to the choices made, and the show takes it a step further by evoking realizations of naivete in the audience alongside the characters.

Yeah, Rami Malek has owned this role since the very first two words of the show were spoken but the final scene of this episode is where his acting really shines

Mr. Robot is next level tier of cinematography, same level as BCS / Breaking Bad I'd argue. The episode lengths are perfect, the music is thrilling, the story is consistently intense, every episode is extremely fulfilling. The creator of this episode leads both audio, cinematography, and story telling - which is extremely rare for the writer to lead these other departments for his "baby". Sam Esmail has also had a history of hacking himself, at one point, he was put on academic probation for hacking (this is the creator of the series). I'm not familiar with the codes they show on the series, but it is reassuring to know that everything you see is accurate to a degree / not the typical "Hollywood press a button and enter main frame" sort of hacking. Love this show

Brendan

Say what Is that not a real language or am I trippin

Isaac

LOL so funny how it must look. We are using Rot-13 as code. If you Google Rot-13 and throw what we said in there, it will translate for you. BUT ONLY IF YOUVE SEEN SEASON 3

tom

Yeah, IMO Season 2 is where the show really grows into its own thing with the directing and cinematography. It always had a distinct look, but it's not until the second season where literally every episode onwards is directed by the creator/writer and you can really feel its immersive unique flavor becoming a big part of the show. And the final season is where the directing/cinematography is just on crack. Every episode could pass as a movie and it's definitely the most different from the other seasons.

100%! I still remember watching that one episode and I was so ingulfed in how electric it was, that I didn't notice they didn't speak a single word until the end of the episode. This show is something else, can't wait for them to get into the deep storyline that's yet to unfold.

tom

IMO S3E5 is the even more impressive one. I remember watching it live, it was exhilarating with all the buildup that it was gonna be something special

Kara

big agree - S2 is so masterfully made on rewatch, I didn't appreciate it enough the first time through. Probably because of the week-to-week wait. Ismail is an incredible director and the show is so uniquely filmed, really feels like nothing else on TV. He also directed the first season of Homecoming which is really good (I wouldn't bother with S2, S1 is a great standalone thing though)

Dante

The directing in S4 is simply otherworldly. I truly believe there will never be a show again that matches the direction of every single S4 episode. I don’t have words to describe how perfect it is

tom

I just randomly remembered this comment. Shouldn't it also be for S4 spoilers too, not S3? Also maybe you could edit it and add it to the top of it? I know it's like a 0.0000001% chance anyone translates it without seeing the show AND not realizing it's spoilers, but just in case....? 🥺
